Re: Myth II 1.8.4 Beta 2 [Updated]

The readme says the Mac version is compatible with PPC, x86 and Apple Silicon processors - does this mean it runs natively on Apple Silicon or under Rosetta? If natively, it's kind of mind-blowing that (a) there is such a thing as a PPC/intel/Apple universal binary, (b) that you guys are even still ...

Re: New installation on mac

Afraid not. Myth II has been owned by Take2 since 2000, who have never expressed any serious interest in making the game commercially available. If you want to legally obtain a copy you'll need to buy a disk from ebay or somewhere else like that. In case you own the disk but don't have a computer wi...

Re: Gonna install macOS Big Sur

Hooray!

Anyone gonna get a developer preview kit running one of the ARM iPad chips? Apparently OpenGL still works in Big Sur but I can imagine a bunch of things could go wrong.

Next stop Myth on iPad?

Re: Is Apple's move to end OpenGL / OpenCL the end of Myth?

I don't think OpenGL will stop working any time soon. It will just stop getting updates, might get buggier, etc. I think we should wait and see what happens. I suspect at some point there will be an OpenGL -> Metal library that we could just use. Or we port to Vulkan and use a Vulkan -> Metal one. ...

Aha! The multipack is a collection of classic net maps. See you online when you get to it!

Re: Plugin issue

It sounds like you have put the whole folder, not the plugin file, into the plugins folder, which is a common reason for plugins not working. Myth won't find plugins that are inside subfolders. You need to have the file 'Magma - The Fallen Levels v2' in the plugins folder itself, not a subfolder. So...

Re: No cutscenes

Do you still have QuickTime 7 (32 bit) installed somewhere? I’m wondering whether myth defaults to trying to run cutscenes via QT7 if it finds it (even if the default program in Finder is QTX). Can you try deleting QT7 and see if that fixes it? I’m all out of ideas if not!

Re: No cutscenes

I asked you on your reddit post, but have you tried opening the .mov files directly in QuickTime? Some people have apparently has QuickTime issues after upgrading to Catalina. Maybe something like it’s trying to run them in QuickTime 7 (which has no 64 bit version) that’s still installed on your...

Re: New to project magma help

That's good news. If you look in Preferences there's a checkbox labelled 'Windowed'. If it's unchecked it should play full screen.

Re: New to project magma help

Couple of things to check: 1. Have you updated to Myth II v1.8.3? 2. When you click 'New Game', a dialog box should appear (if it doesn't, try shift-clicking). By default it will list the Myth II levels. To play The Fallen Levels, you will need to choose 'Magma - The Fallen Levels' in the 'Campaign'...

Re: Who owns the rights?

I have no doubt you’re right about the value of Myth as a brand for new / remastered games. The best outcome would just be for the original games to be released as freeware so that we can try to organically grow the multiplayer community without trying to convince someone to drop five bucks and bo...

Re: Who owns the rights?

Have you guys ever thought about partnering with Bungie now that they’re an independent studio again, or even some ex-Bungie guys, to try to buy out the rights? I wonder whether Marty O’Donnell might be interested. He is presumably loaded, and no doubt Myth has sentimental value, since (a) I’m...

Re: Idea for new/modified game type

Thanks for your reply Julio, I’ll check out that plugin.

I don’t think it’s something that could be done in loathing, and it would need to be hard-coded into the game itself like all the other multiplayer gametypes (in the same way KOTM was introduced in version 1.8.3).

Idea for new/modified game type

Before anyone yells at me, I have absolutely no idea how complicated it is to create a new game type (I assume only the project magma legends only know the details of this). The idea is a modified version of either CTF or assassin, with a rule that if you eliminate a player or team by capturing thei...
