Hey hey,

I just built a new PC and am having problems with OOS on a fresh install. Here's my log:

I assume my tag files are fux0red or something and I may need to burn myself a new copy of my codex CD... is that the case, or is something else up?

The new system is an AMD 64 3200+ with a GF 6800 GT and Windows XP, SP2.

Thanks <3[/color]

Do you get OOS in every game you play?

That's the weird part about it - no. I played 5 or 10 games yesterday, and went OOS in the following:

Hvergelmir (at least 3 times)
ROTD
Gyre
Gimble

I played in all of these without a problem, though:

Lichen (final)
A Shattered Visage
Keep Across the River
Grilling Grounds

It's always that same error in my log, but it doesn't happen all the time. I tried installing again last night and playing with a mostly-empty plugin folder (the 5 MWC maps and the required patch files) to no avail.

Odd. When you get a game that's OOS, can you save the film, and restart myth and watch it again, and tell me if its still OOS. It's starting to sound like you have bad RAM or something.

I just watched a Hverg film from one of the MWC matches this weekend and went OOS, so you might be right. My PC gets through the RAM test in the bios, though, which is weird... It might be the cheap-o ULTRA memory (512 MB) I got through TigerDirect for $20 after rebate, heh. The other 512 stick I have in there (Corsair) was pre-tested with my mobo and processor.

I burned a new copy of the CD from an ISO file I made about 2 years ago... I'll reinstall again just for fun and see what happens. I hope you're not right :O

Try testing with only one 512 stick in the system and see if the problem still happens (then, test with the other one just to make sure).

Yeah, I'll check that out tomorrow... I found a couple of memory-testing programs that I'm going to make bootable CDs for as well. I have noticed a few other quirks with the system (washed out MPEG video in WMP, Dreamweaver MX 04 runs like crap), but I never would have suspected a bad stick of RAM until you said something.

Thanks for your help so far.

Well, it looks like my RAM checks out. I ran two passes each with Memtest 86 and the Windows Memory Diagnostic tool, and both came up clean.

I'll try another install with that new CD and see what happens before I go ripping out memory modules. Any other suggestions?

Bah, looks like you may be right, Myrd. After getting an error in Half-Life 2 tonight (something about not being able to read a memory location), I popped one of the sticks out and played back one of the Myth films in question. Everything checks out so far, so it looks like the RAM I removed was the culprit.

Weird, though, since those two memory diagnostics didn't find anything wrong. The stick itself might be ok (ULTRA), but I guess it doesn't like the other stick of Corsair that came with my Asus mobo.

Thanks again, Myrd.

heh, your ultra is ok, but the corsair is bad? That's funny given the reps of the 2 brands.

It was the other way around, gg cryptic sentences. I'll be happy in a few days when the UPS guy delivers another stick of the Corsair stuff :)
