that could be it... since i probably missed some of the units path finding radius's though ill have to look and see if any of those units where the ones getting stuck...

Meh, any chance of compressing your files as zips instead of sits? I really can't stand Stuffit and am not downloading the demo again just to uninstall the hated program after one use.

Why use Suffit at all these days? Both PCs and Macs now come with the preinstalled ability to compress and uncompress zips, no? Do sits save you 3 Kbs on every Mb compared to zips or something? Hardly worth the trouble to download a program, install it, figure out how to use it, and then have it make you wait a minute every time you use it after the trial period has expired - while asking you for money for something you don't want or need!

Sorry, I'm cranky 'cause I'm sick, but I really do hate Stuffit and refuse to use it on principle.

I had both zips and sits origionally but people where having probs with zips. and doob was short of space on the server so i stuck with .sit they run a few meg smaller also... I have stuffit and winrar both say on occasion i should pay shareware fee ,but work flawlessly with out registration

anycase now that udogs isnt space critical I'll start uploading both types again. get well soon chrisp

Thanks Point. From the screen shots, CWR is looking great. I look forward to helping out with some scripting if you still need it.

Point, would you please upload in in RAR or Bzip2 along side zip instead of stuffit? They compress very well and don't need stuffit's program.

I take it you're being sarcastic, but the point is there should be a common denominator within the mapmaking community for compression. Mapmakers should feel obliged to provide the easiest soultion, especially considering how many betas a typical project requires for download.

Asking for zips isn't asking for something unusual. Once, perhaps, sits were more convenient for Macs, but far as I know, new Macs have been able to use zips out of the box for some time now, but sits still require downloading (and paying for, if you want the full version) Stuffit. I wouldn't dream of asking someone to purchase a program to help me test one of my maps.

Also, there are no choices or menus to figure out with zips. Double click on a zip file and drag it to where you want it. Done. Zips also don't seem to require that you constantly update Winzip to the latest version.

In summary, it's not about personal preference, but what is most convenient for the masses. I'm certainly not an expert on compression, but I've done my share of having to distribute hundreds of files to scores of beta testers, and I know what slows down the process and what doesn't.

7zip

By the way: 7zip has has the best compression I know and it supports a lot of formats, including the amazing 7z format. And it is Open Source and available for Windows, Mac OS, Linux etc. It does not even have to be installed and comes without spyware or registration crap. I can really recommend it, especially for distribution.

.sits are habit for long-time mac-ers.

zips are more 'standard' but they aren't as universally usable as you would think. some OS9 versions of zip programs create zips that aren't unzippable by some newer Windows unzip programs. I want to say the reverse is true as well but I can't remember the details. I know a couple of years back when I was using OS9 more and was trading zipped map files with ordermates we ran into a bunch of zip incompatibilities between platforms. It might have been because different vendors interpreted the zip spec slightly differently or some Windows zip programs were choking on Mac header/resource files or something simple but the problems were definitely there. Stuffit was a pain in that you had to download and wait 1 minute to click on the 'continue'/'unstuff' button, but it did at least work consistently across OS9/OSX/Winxx platforms.

I just want something I can open on all my computers and everyone else can open... I have free versions of stuffit on all my computers and have never had a problem with it. WInrar bugs me with all its pay for me menus... bzip2 i just got today .. though mac os 9 users could be out of luck with it.

80% of the myth stuff I've downloaded is in .sit format none in bzip2 and almost all the rest in zip I think the easy file is zip though my zips (made with stuffit) dont seem compatible with everyones unzippers. so ill try making the zips with something else and hopefully everyone can decompress with no problems...

I wasn't :) Zip is a poor compressor, bz2 for example saves alot (~20%) of downloading time which is good for people on slow connections when downloading large files :) Most people can open them (even if they don't realise it), it's free, widely used and cross-platform compatible. Here is a MacOS Classic app:

in comparison:
zOOkville_(v1.0):
uncompressed: 20.3 MB (21,349,834 bytes)
zip compressed: 8.20 MB (8,604,332 bytes)
rar compressed: 6.68 MB (7,008,918 bytes)
bz2 compressed: 6.61 MB (6,939,344 bytes)
7z compressed: 5.84 MB (6,127,129 bytes)

Phex: the 7zip program also supports Bz2 on Windows. Caveat with 7z is it probably can't be opened on MacOS Classic.

cwr is regualar myth scale b&g with 1.6 features and plenty of unit types

Cwe is epic scale mini myth style b&g including Phex's mini maps...


NOTE alpha build 9 is the last test before beta version testing... its a test of unit attacks in the epic size ... since everything was scaled down basically testing the attacks to see what kind of ballance there is....

the 1.6 features are not active in the cwe alpha tests ... though the betas will be just dont want to copy all the monsters until i know the attacks are ballanced right... thanks for helping....

Some of the features to expect from Civil War Reloaded...

up to 32 federal and 32 confederate unit types per map

Canon tenders... that can take over either teams canons...
Canon wagons to move canons faster and resupply with ammo

Morale boosts from commanders officers and flag bearers

Artillery shell optons... via inventory Solid Shot, Case rounds, grape Shot, Fused shots.

Replacement soldiers that can pick up dropped flags drive dead supply wagons Mount horses and ride to battle.

Troops will move faster on roads and trails than in open terrain... Formations and waypoints become more strategic.

I played the CWR coop today with Lod. Here are a few random screenshots:

As you can maybe see from the screenshots, it was a very chaotic game. As far as I like the concept of epic games, this plugin still lacks of a clear structure. The many different units look cool on the first view, but they result in heavy gameplay issues. We both tried to group our units as clever as possible, but they still clumped together, moved at different speed and spread without sense. We didnt even know what to do with half of the special units. I dont want to bash this plugin, I am just honest when I say: there is a lot to improve. And I think Lod has a similar opinion.

My personal hint to improve the gameplay would be to simplify EVERYTHING: less different units, less special attacks and abilities, simple and clear enemy formations and movemend etc. Trying to have epic units with regular abilities and behaviour doesnt work well here in my eyes.

Dont be discouraged, but this is simply what I have experienced.
