some news on the Greek Plugin

Post by carlinho »

Ok, so many fights going on that I want to revert the flames with things that are going on.

There's a lot of people working on great plugs right now, so I though why not put some eye candy out there and cheer the weekend

I've been with this Plug for over 4 years now?
and it seems unending ....
there's sooo much to do....

for only 1 guy....

hopefully A- red will do Thermopylae scripting, and I narrowed the campaign to 9 maps.
The thing I hate is scripting...it just takes too much time....

But it's going there, I need to finish before december...the doctor confirmed my wife and I, that we have a child coming...and if it happens it will be my first born...so voila...

here's some eye candy on the last maps I'm working on:

A river called Hydaspes (the famous battle of ALEXANDER the great against Porus indian troops.

some stills from the maps:

Hydaspes : the greeks try to sortie the river

in between the trees on the river bank:

the site for the battle, some really high barley fields that some move with the wind even:

Image

the Greeks crossed the wrong river bank:

I was tired and I imported some photorealistic mountain textures...if you see them from the correct angle they are just amazing!!!

Image

Another map: the Phasian pass....dare to venture beyond it...muahahaha

Image

the final models for the shipwrecked map:

hope you enjoyed the show

cheers

I really look forward to your plugs, carlinho.

Better finish them before your baby arrives. You've never been as tired as you're about to become with a newborn. At least I had never been. Congratulations :)

C, you are SUCH a tease :-/

Congrats on the rugrat-to-be. All the best!

I'd be interested to know what you're doing for sounds on your plug. What do the units sound like?

thanks to all guys!!!
I was scared to give the news as babies can have miscarriages and all, but what the hell, I need to start living the life by the second, carpe diem!

Oro, I got permission from the guys at EB group (a team that did some amazing mods to rome total war) to use their ancient greek voice overs

so the units now sound like: "hoplitai haploi! and "cretikoi toxotae"! and several other cool sounds in real greek language.

the only problem I will go into, is once I finish the maps, to record all the voice over for the story voice overs....
William Wallet long time ago told me he was willing to do some, and anybody that wants could give a voice.
But I'll do those in english, as not only I can't speak greek, but even if I did, nobody would understand a word or the story if it was that way....

regarding casualties...you can't imagine how boring is to hear casualties 100 times in 15 seconds (that's the death rate on the greek plug in a battle)
so instead of internal casualties sound I placed some grunts and screams and spears ripping flesh...

Great job carl! your units always look good in formation :)

Also you dont HAVE to do it all by yourself - i myself would love to give you some ambering help or some tips to make things smoother - heck i'll even take a pass at your collections and do some fine tuning for free!

Cuz all those sexy new units require some sexification, amber-style, maybe too much for one man!

Fear/amber help is always waiting for you on hotline carl, should stop by sometime:)

Yeah - it looks _amazing_!!

Also - congrats on your ripening nextGenMyther - but PLEASE OH PLEASE OH PLEASE do whatever it takes (accept help from interested talented people like ooga) to get this plug done BEFORE the little wight pops out! As Frum said - after the kid is born you won't have the kind of 'free time' (or whatever you call the time you spend making things for Myth) you have now for another 10 years or so!
Lots of Myth stuff at http://mythgraveyard.org.
Sometimes I put hard to find stuff in my my Udogs folder.

thanks to all!
thanks oooga, the thing is I like to amber and fear, what I hate is scripting
well, not that I hate but it takes a LOOOONG time to do so. But I really appreciate your help. What we can do is once I'm about to release it I'll do an open testing and there you can help me fine tune all I envisioned (there's a lot to fine tune...hehehe)

Anyways, don't worry vinyl the plugin will be released on the stage it is, before december.
Maybe the plug as a whole won't be the thing I idealized as it would take a while to perfection all the details and I won't have that time but for december I thing there's going to be some really nice gems in it, fair enough to give incentive to some mapmakers to make greek maps with the units, maps and models.
One thing I love is how easy it is to micromanage units.
Once you get the idea how they work, it's really easy and friendly and you can have them perform really different in a matter of 2 clicks and seconds.
I'm laying a sketch on all colour maps right now.
There's 10 of them.
Some are finished, some need tweaking, some need some heavy makup
except thermopylae which was done by master unkfoldt the rest I'm making just basic color maps, as it takes a loooong time to try to do masterpieces.
But they work fine....
scripting...uhhhh they'll have somebasic scripting.
nothing fancy, but enough to test you and give you some idea of the potential of the units.
and then all the small detail like models still in the works and some units still needed.
But the heavy burden is scripting, for sure.....

and december is the date...
cheers!

thinking about it, you know what you guys could help me out if anybody is interested?

I want to make custom interface designs, so the greek plug has some nice custom control bars, etc
I tried some, but then there's soooo many new resolutions that it's more than just the 800x600 etc that come in the folders

mazzarin custom desings are simple and amazing, something like that. Nothing too fancy.

that's one...
the other one...string lists....

I need to create string lists for all the units...flavours, names, spelling.
it's pretty easy to do so...but then...everything is easy but takes so much time....hehehe

anybody interested shoot me a PM

thanks!!!!!

Thanks for the tease, carlinho.

My wife was expecting in March, she did miscarry but we were incredibly excited and trepidatious and all that too while she was pregnant. I'm not trying to discourage you from letting people know at all, a community really comes together around a pregnant couple I find. Even a community you may never have met :)

While I am not an experienced scripter (I dabbled years ago but never made anything meaningful), I do have some facility with the English language and creativity therein. So if you send me your unit types I would be pleased to send you flavor and names that you could absolutely give or take, no pressure whatsoever. Anything that will take some of the weight off your shoulders and assist in getting this ambitious and awesome project toward completion.

Regardless, great work as always.

Hey Carlinho,

With a tip o' the hat to Pompey, I'm also a wordsmith... and an amateur muso, a Photoshop user for 14 years and I've had a passionate interest in Hellenistic Greece (and the Greek Dark Ages through to Hellenistic Greece [circa 1100-150 BCE). I'm no scholar of the ancient Greeks, but I'm very interested in reflecting the detail you've pursued in your artwork with a custom interface.

Just flick me a short description of the era of the campaigns, the basic geographical locations, and I'd be happy to dig into into the cultural mores and flick you some ideas. Just PM me. I check in every day.

Then I'll bribe Death's Avatar with worldly riches to tell me how to put an interface together :)
