Pyro.
My guy has 3 plates on the arms as well.
Upper arm, For-arm and hand.
The bungie renders have a bit more overlap than mine.
I modeled it off of a concept sketch i found from bungie which had everything looking the way mine did, with the exception of the rally banner. In the concept sketch it looked like a forked Pennant, mine is more like the japanese banners i have seen.
I was thinking of continuing the banners down the back like the bungie renders, but i dont think i am going to make them "floppy".
350X350 includes room for the sword swings. The entire clip on youtube is 350X350. I dont know the exact spec there, but the HG himself is smaller.

Oh, you're right about the plates. Bungie's just made them look similar in length and I completely forgot about the hands. As for the example of the 350x350 image, I just did that as an example to compare with the other two.
Do you plan on making new headshots for these units? You know, the little pictures that show up in the status bar when you have them selected.

Concentrating on the cheracters on-screen first.
I dont think the original head-shots looked bad, so maybe not. Just grabing a screenshot of the model's face wouldnt look as good as the illustrations because i didnt lay any groundwork for animating the faces. They are all stoic -eyes forward.
There's a ways before these make it to the amber stage yet anyway.
I have to get the Realitic Battle Damage in for the death animation, and that means good texturing because i want that texture, or a version of it to be the main texture of the HG Thrall unit.

Agree with VR - this is great looking stuff! The motion looks very natural (a tricky thing to get right).vinylrake wrote:I am not an animation expert by any stretch of the imagination but those movement sequences look very smooth - and very mythlike!Fortified Hooligan wrote:Some test renders.
Keep up the good work!
My only complaint - and it's a minor one - is the swords seem too "thin" to me for some reason. Like they're Samurai swords instead of a slightly broader sword (as seen in the images from iron's unit). I think it's the proportions of the swords - maybe just slightly too short as well? As I say, this is my only nit. Otherwise superb.

Plus the sound the Heron swords made as they are rubbed together in taunt seems appropriate for thinner blades. Thicker blades would have a deeper sound. Definitely wanted to stress: Your work is excellent!
It was just a nit on my part but I have to say your response really impressed me.
Beyond your excellent artwork, I am equally impressed with your own detailed observations, your ability to describe them, and the fact that you are not only interested in feedback but are able to discuss it all openly at a very mature level.
These are rare traits in any endeavor and great to see.
So again, kudos on your work and I for one am really looking forward to seeing more!

I appreciate everyone's comments. I am doing this because it is fun, first and formost, and second i want everyone to get a kick out of them when/if they use them in their own games.
As a result i am trying to stay true to the ogirinal unit as much as possible.
Some things changed from the unit in-game. The rally banner on the back, the overall look of the front armor (changed to conform with the concept sketch, but i took some liberties with that as well.)
Here are the broader swords Baak pointed out, and the different Rally banners.
I think i will change the swords to look more like these...
The pauldrens have been depicted differently from image to image, but i am satisfied with how mine came out.
So, yes. If anyone has a comment about my work, please post it. I am interested in seeing different views on the cheracters so that i can more closely match what people would like to see in-game.

Re: New Hi res Units Progress.
I would add some of the string lines like you have on the chest onto the boots either in texture mapping or via 3d parts basically give them more of realistic feel like the rest of the model...

i probably have a texture that would work if you have the boots texture mapped....
keep up the good work...

Below are a few shots of the work so far.
if one does not learn from the failings of the past they are likely to suffer its return.

Change of plans.
I will be doing the Thrall unit next instead of the warrior.
This way, everytime i create a new human-proportioned unit i can convert it directly to the thrall version and have the living and undead version come out almost at the same time.
Quick debate everyone.
Units that should have thrall versions.
My list. These are easy because they are all roughly human shaped and their performaces would all degrade to that of the Thrall upon being undead. Note, these are Thrall versions of the living units. Therefore they would behave like thrall. Beserks would not perform any better as Thrall than warriors because of diminished ability brought on by being Thrall converts. No re-make dawn of the dead zombies in this crowd. I also envision them being given the axes, adding armor to the un-armored units, retaining superior armor of units with armor, though battle-beaten and bloodied.
Warrior
Archer
Beserk
Heron Guard
Journeyman
Brigand
Fir' Bolg
Questionable. These units have different bone structure, or you could argue would have different properties as undead units. I would not plan to incorporate these units into the single player games because they don't exist in the single player game. You could say that the thrall in later levels were decomposed archers, journeymen or Beserks, but there were no non-human thrall in the games. These would be for people to make use in their own maps if they wanted them.
Myrkridia (Workable. Presumably perform similar to undead humans)
Maul (Due to large mass would posses stronger attack power and be even more durable than when alive.)
Ghol (Dynamics of ghol locomotion would provide for slightly faster gait in thrall unit. maybe as fast as a journeyman?)
Giant units. All of these units dissolve in some way when they die. I presume this may have something to do with the aesthetics that the bungie devs wanted to preserve on the battle field.
a giant unit's body would be giant on the ground as well and maybe obscure roots, satchels, whatever. It makes sense in the terms of the trow, which fall apart as stone, but i think i would rather have like to see the body of the myrk Giant, and probably i would like to see the forest giant root into the ground and turn into a tree or somethng. Never the less, i plan to stick to the original death behaviors, unless everyone here would rather see something else.
My question is, do any of you see a way where these units might be converted to Thrall in some instance that would fit in the the most geek-stringent view of the Myth continuity.
For instance, maybe it is possible to make a Trow into a thrall before he crumbles, but would the Trow nation STAND for it? Revolt due to disrespect/ nix's objections, whatnot?
In any case, these units would naturally be much more powerful than regular thrall, and even more tank-like than when alive. Also, fairly fast due to longer strides, even if they are shuffling their feet.
Trow. (Feasible in myth continuity?)
Forest Giant. (Feasible in myth continuity?)
Myrk Giant. (Feasible in myth continuity?)
Comments suggestions?

So you are thinking of adding Thrall armor to unarmored dead units? I guess I pictured the Dark to convert them as is, since it would take more time and resources to replace their weapons and add armor. So a Thrall made out of a Warrior would move slower and hold the sword differently. As in almost pointing to the ground. It may even just drop the shield altogether or just hold it really low. As for the giants, maybe a new type of undead could be done. We know the Trow and Forest Giants turn to stone when near death. Picture an Undead Trow made up of its stone remains. So you would see cracks and gaps throughout the unit. Similar to how Stygian Knights are made out of armor that was never alive.
By the way, you could give the default Thrall unit different weapons and in Myth they can be set to randomly have one of those weapons.

The game manuals point out that an axe is the only weapon they can use effectively. A sword is conceivable, I guess...I can't see them being smart enough to actually block with a shield though.
It might be worth varying the armor though...if a Thrall Bowman and a Thrall Fir'Bolg both have all the basic thrall armor, then the difference between them (or between them and regular Thrall) is virtually nonexistent. Maybe Peasant Thralls could have no armor, archer Thrall could have partial armor, etc.
