Myth2 1.6 patch on mac os 10.3

Post by dac »

it will not work. the 1.5 patch installed just fine and when i tried to update to 1.6 with the universal app, it simply closes. the original app does not recognize the 1.6 patch.

is this a problem with having a dated os, or is there something else that could be wrong?

myth wont even start up. there is no log to speak of, i simply open the universal app and it closes on me immediately.

Have you tried reinstalling? Perhaps your CD is scratched and therefore the install doesn't go well.

just installed everything tonight

let me break it down

1) have a myth cd (iso) burned onto a disc. tht disc worked for both mac and windows base installs (although the mac had to use your classic not available tool - thanks for that btw!)

2) patch 1.5 was auto updated by said non-classic installer tool

3) myth worked fine, i logged on no prob but was still running 1.5

4) dled the 1.6 patch and moved files according to instructions, added the myth 1.6 universal app

5) opened the original myth app, still ran 1.5 (with logs accordingly)

6) opened the universal myth2 app, it closed without ever really opening and nothing changed in the log.

for some reason the app is not even loading in the first place.

there were no bungie dns prefs or any such thing either, so, im not really too sure what im doing wrong here.

i only ask if its a 10.3 problem because i had a hell of at ime fidning an AIM client to run on anything older than 10.4 and coudlnt even find a yahoo messenger client to do the same.

thanks in advance.

It's possible there's some Mac OS version specific problem, but if so it's not one that's age-related. I am running OS 10.2.8 and have installed Myth II oodles of times, though I don't know if I bother running the autoinstaller for the updates - I think I usually just start with a clean Myth 2 install, then unzip the m2 upgrades and drag the executable into the myth 2 folder and the updated tags into the tags folder.

Don't use the Universal.

Use this instead:

(Since you are using an older version of OS X. Maybe it doesn't play nice with the UB)

I believe Universal Binaries require 10.4.x or higher.

my bad. I should have remembered that. I tried that the first time thinking "Oh the UNIVERSAL one, must work for EVERYTHING, why else would they call it 'UNIVERSAL'?"

Seriously. I know magma didnt make up the terminology, but a "Universal" binary that isn't? WTH?

It works universally across all Macs that support OS 10.4 (which introduced them). All a universal-binary is is a package containing code compiled for PowerPC Macs alongside code for Intel Macs; the OS needs to understand the format though in order to decide which one to select.

Technical details aside, "Universal" means universal. A binary that supports all macs running a given OS or higher is not 'universal'.

Not an argument, just annoyed at Apple's misappropriation of a word.

It's a little bit unique.

Universal Serial Bus doesn't allow you to plug-in absolutely everything ever-made; there are likely tons of other cases but it's not an easy thing to search-for.

Universal is no different from infinite is no different from unlimited in any practical (i.e - non theoretical) context; a universal binary is universally accepted across all platforms that support them :)
