Recon on Xmas day =(.
PlayMyth could just let any account be used for a while and see what happened to ranks. After maybe 4 months, unless there was major trouble there could be a vote on it.

Well, in all honesty, PlayMyth has never really operated as a democracy. Hell, it's enough of a challenge to get the three principals (myself, Bloo and Alan) on the same page to make changes as we're all very conservative in that regard.
We decided that with the time limitations we have in terms of being able to administer PlayMyth and continue to work on those things which hopefully make Myth a better game - that we just didn't really want to be bothered with the inevitable flood of "OMG "so-and-so" HAS A DUPE AND BASHED MY TEAM". I think we all know better than to think that this wouldn't happen. Not preparing for it would be asking for trouble.
So far, the unranked-for-freebie email thing has worked pretty well. We're always evaluating ideas to get more people playing. We have seen an uptick in the number of games and players since we instituted this policy, so hopefully it's a sign of better things to come.

"Myth already has two popular servers"?
If you live in England, getting games on MariusNet requires staying up all nite and isn't plausable in the middle of my GCSEs.
