Ok, so I just installed 1.5.1beta, turned settings to OpenGL, and ran a few games. I am getting 30fps, which is unbelievable horrid for my computer. I was pushing 500fps at times in D3D, unfortunately even at that framerate I suffer from the stutter lag. So yea, tried with High Resolution box checked and unchecked, tried turning on high priority for myth.exe but I am still getting 30fps(and its hella choppy). Also tried turning off Anti-Aliasing and Anisotropic filtering as well as switching off V-Sync. Anyway just wanted to report that. Computer specs below.

P4 3.5ghz
1024mb RAM
Radeon x800 xt video card

Run dxdiag and send the results to cik at projectmagma.net. Something is very wrong if you are only getting 30fps on that kind of system. Also are you getting the lag problems during solo & online play or only online games?

We had another guy (ChrisP) who had that experience as well. Seems to be very highly graphics card dependent. For others like me it runs faster than D3D.

Of greater concern though is the stutter - you're getting that with OGL? 30fps is the speed Myth actually runs at, so a faster framerate than that is largely redundant, hence at that speed it _should_ be running smoothly.

Yea the stutter is more intense in OpenGL than in D3D, meaning the camara is jerky when it is rotated, or moved. The units even seem a little choppy when moving, almost like TFL in a way. However the unit response is much greater than D3D, and is comparable to software mode. Thats the only good experience I am having so far. Also of note, I am using the Omega drivers based on Cat 4.12. I am going to try the new Cat 5.01 drivers and see what happens.

New Drivers provided same performance.

It almost sounds like your Radeon card (mine's a Geforce btw) isn't caching the graphics or something. Hmm ...

I've got a similar problem, getting really crappy fps. Also there are room problems, in 1.5 I can get to all the rooms, in 1.5.1 I cant
what the hell is the pword to my old account?

what kind of graphics card do you have qwerty? Don't be too concerned yet - the early betas of OpenGL under OSX ran like a pig on valium ;) With your help we'll do everything we can to find & fix the problem before 1.5.1 final.

This may sound like a dumb question. What is open GL? I read this thread and tried it. The fps went up from 280+ on Broken path with an Nvidia Geforce FX 5200 to 350+ with open GL. Only thing though it didnt look quite as good with open GL. The words on screen were alot more boxier and the graphics weren't quite as smooth. Anyway I also wanted to say that the new open GL is working for me.

that mirrors my experience on a Geforce 3, though for me it looks better than Direct3D for the most part. Text doesn't seem to be anti-aliased though under OGL like it is with D3D.

OpenGL is a totally different method for accelerated graphics rendering. Its an open standard first developed by Silicon Graphics, and is available on pretty much every platform. Unlike Direct3D, which is Windows-only.

We've wanted to get OpenGL available as an option on PCs for a long time as a means of overcoming the input lag that Direct3D so often causes people.

Random things:

I know I sound like a broken CD: but please try to post bug reports to the bug tracker page. Though at this point no need to post about OpenGL, this thread will serve as the bug tracker for OGL.

People having lag issues with 1.5.1: Did you have issues using both D3D & OGL? Did you have issues /w D3D under 1.5?

Most Video drivers supply panels under the Display control panel that allow you to change various settings for OpenGL & Direct3d. Which can have some drastic effects on performance and quality of display. For instance my ATI 9600 allows me to dumb down texture quality, turn on Full screen anti-aliased, turn on texture compression. All these things will effect speed and quality of the display. Most cards have separate settings for both OpenGL & D3D.

Posting the output from dxdiag can be very helpful. This will give us specific information about your hardware setup, OS & software versions.

I am running 56.72 drivers from nVidia, and OpenGL seems to run a bit better than D3D. I am using an FX 5900.

Ok I tried OGL on my wifes computer as well. Same deal there(200fps in D3D, down to 30fps in OGL). This computer is a 3.0Ghz 512mb RAM and a Radeon 9700pro video card.
