4th Marathon conversion...thing...

Post by Grayswandir »

Yes, I know a Marathon unit conversion has been done before...at least three of them. But from what I've heard (and seen...), only SiTH was fully completed. And so, I present the starting stages (a bit of a misleading statement...) of the next Marathon -> Myth II conversion!!!
Alric Dreams of Electric Sheep......or something...something...something...yeah...We'll just call it the "4th Marathon Conversion" for now...
Really what I plan on doing is taking advantage of the inventory system (can someone say Waste and Spank 'em combination?), have Co-op compatibility (which has been done in the others...), and have some cool, Marathon-esque plugin name (the most important factor of course... ).
I'm having trouble assigning "equivalent" units however...I'm in the process of writing up a list right now, but if anyone has any suggestions go ahead and post them...This is what I have so far...I've been exporting images as I go.

9/28/06: list updated -
warrior - BOB
berserk - AR BOB (from Rubicon, used with permission)
heron - S'pht'kr
jman - S'pht
dwarf - cyborg
mortar - Rocket Marine
archer - VacBOB
warlock - compiler (major)
dwarf hero - TOTZ Marine
archer hero - SMG Marine
heron hero - Shotgun Marine
berserk hero - AR Marine
warlock hero - Fusion Marine (maybe...)
Deciever - Mother of All Enforcers
Garrick - Dual-pistol Marine
Alric - Vidmasters (you know you want one...)
Phelot - Mother of All Hunters (with specials...)
Rurick - Civilian (elite)
Pathfinder - TOTZ Marine (hidden)
fish - potato anus

still working on exporting all the sounds, images, and remaking the animations...god this takes a long time.

Anyway, post suggestions or anything you'd like to see.

All material copyrighted to Bungie etc, etc, etc.

That would be good idea. The difficulty would be making things balanced and also making the AR and SMG automatic.

Also you didn't mention a replacement for Myrks or Myrk Giants.
SiTH replaced Myrks with Devlins (from Marathon EVIL) and Myrk Giants with Juggernaughts. And you didn't mention Soulblighter, though I'm not sure if it will be necessary. Thrall, Souless and Shiver too.

Here are my suggestions:

Thrall - Fighters (melee)
Souless - Projectile Fighters
Dark Archers - Hostile VacBOBs
Myrks - Not quite sure
Myrk Giant - Juggernaught (better than SiTH)
Shiver - Mother of All Cyborgs?
Soulblighter - Mother of All Juggernaughts!

Actually I was gonna make Soulblighter Tfear...I thought it'd be fitting.

Didn't think about Tfear. Is there a model or bitmaps for Tfear?

I thought Tfear was the black Pfhor.

The Black Pfhor Fighter? What kind of Pfhor does he look like?
Maybe for Soulblighter you could have the S'pht Cyborg? Might be a bad idea though...

Yeah, but I figured I'd try not to kill the level scripting because SB is a melee fighter...and the Black Pfhor (you see it in some of the VidMaster levels...) is a friggin' insane melee fighter that takes at least 5 rockets to kill (knocking it into lava is easier...)...it'd work.

EDIT: I just realized how much of a parallel both SB and Tfear are...they both die easier in lava...hahahaha...yeah...

Gar....
See this is what happens when you say you're going to do something and then get stuck...
I can't seem to figure out how to import new animations and sprites into Fear...I'm an idiot.
Do I need another program to do this?

EDIT: Nevermind, I found Amber and Jade...now I need to learn how to use them.

Forge, to extract the pictures of aliens. And Amber. Get it here:http://hl.udogs.net/files/Useful_Tools/ ... 02.0b6.sit
Amber allows you to create collections for Fear to use. Amber requires OS 9 or Classic to run. It accepts 8-bit bmps only. Once you've finished a collection, you can save it into your local folder and you can then add Projectiles, monsters, collection references etc.
For some reason the URL feature isn't working so copy and paste the address into your browser.

and

Lots of Myth stuff at http://mythgraveyard.org.
Sometimes I put hard to find stuff in my my Udogs folder.

Which is why I'm going to get some alpha/beta testers...
I plan on just copying over the damage ratios from Infinity at first and then modifying them from there until I get this nice sweet balance goin' on...yeah baby. :P

dmg ratio isnt the only thing, you need proper physics :)

but marathon and myth are pretty similar, so that shoulnt be a big problem.

TFL used a modified Marathon 2 Engine...I'm not sure about Myth II...they may have just redone the whole thing for Myth II.
