MythIV The Wind Age Multiplayer HD DEMO has been released!

Post by Renwood »

Renwood here with GOOD NEWS MYTHERS!

We are Proud to announce our Development team has finsihed the multiplayer part of what we have spent the last 5 years creating!!! For these last 2 months we all worked solid 12 hour shifts to bring you all something very special indeed!

Created as a Technology DEMO of what the modern myth2 1.7.1 engine is capable of
To help convince publishers that there is STILL life left in this great old game

"The Unofficial Myth IV The Wind Age Multiplayer Demo Part1" (MIV_TWA Multiplayer Demo for short)
HAS BEEN RELEASE!!!!!!!!

Things you can look forward to are:

ALL NEW ALL HIGH DEF CONTENT!
We are talking EVREYTHING ON THE SCREEN IN HIGH DEF!
20 all new HD units! (with more in later releases)
TONS OF CLASSIC MAPS LOOKING BETTER THEN EVER AND A FEW ALL NEW ONES!
All Really sweet looking HD 24 bit Dtexed Colormaps (Thanks to Melekor Jon God!)
All new HD Effects for EVREYTHING! (Thanks to ooga and myself!)
All HD scenery (Thanks to Road and Ooga!)
An extremely well crafted MYTHY gameplay experience YEARS in the making with TONS of alpha and beta testing to back it up!

Now keep in mind this MythIVTWA Demo is MENT to PUSH the envelope of what the MODERN myth 1.7.1 Engine created by Project Magma can REALLY DO!
THANKS TO MAGMA TYPES AND ALL ALPHA TESTERS!
And as with all modern video games with modern content it requires a computer made in the last 5 years or so for the smoothest/best looking gameplay experience.

The reccomended system requirements are:

Single core Mac 2 GHZ, 2 gigs system RAM, 256 MB Video (or better)
Dual core Mac 1.5 GHZ, 1 gig system RAM 128 MB Video (or better)

Single Core PC 2.2 GHZ, 2 gigs system RAM, 256 MB Video (or better)
Dual core PC 1.7 GHZ, 1.7 gigs system RAM, 128 MB Video (or better)

We dont have minimum system specs at this time.

It SHOULD play on most computers pretty smoothly if made it the last 5 years and with 2 gigs of system ram and 256 megs of video ram.

Things to make SURE you have these settings in myths Preferences turned on to get the BEST HD experiece:
Make sure to TURN ON the following:

1. USE OpenGL RENDERING MODE!! Dtexs on maps ONLY WORK in OpenGL!!!

2. Landscape Textures ON, (puts the AWESOME Custom 24 bit Dtex textures created by Jon God on the maps)

3. Set "Tex. Cache" to 512 MB

4. A Screen reolution of 1024X768 OR ABOVE!

5. Max FPS box set to 300 FPS

6. Anisotropic Filtering On.

And if you are on an Older/slower computer and want to get HIGHER FPS IN GAME DO THE EXACT OPPOSITE Of everything i just listed.
ALSO To increase FPS in game When you have Dtexs on you can hit F11 and it will toggle Dtexes on and off in OpenGL Mode only. (Great for if you get slowdown in large battles turning Dtex off mid game with F11 can increase FPS by 50 frames or more!)
ALSO BE SURE TO HAVE Vsync NOT SELECTED! this is slow you down a lot as well if Vsync is turned on.

OK well i think thats about it! For further instructions Check the README that comes with the Download! AND TRUST US IF YOU LOVE MYTH ITS WORTH THE DOWNLOAD! O and ITS FREE!

Your Kind Donations of ANY AMOUNT through paypal of even 1 dollar would be VERY Helpfull! And will help us greatly in helping us to release the SUPER CRAZY HIGH DEF Multiplayer demo Parts 2 and 3 Later (WARNING QUAD CORES RECCOMENDED FOR THAT RELEASE!!!!). We are ALSO working on Single player/COOP campain Levels that should be out this month (WE NEED SCRIPTING HELPERS THOUGH!)

The single player/COOP levels will give all you Mythers out there a chance to see the campain levels and ACTION that we have been working on FOR over 5 years!

The only thing you will need to get used to is the inventory system for units. Using them ISNT required for the most part so you can take your time to get used to how all of them work.

BTW All THE UNITS IN OUR CREATIONS HAVE NORMAL MYTH TFL AND MYTH 2 UNITS HEALTH AMOUNTS!!! So no Mazz style gameplay where 10 wights exploding on an archer CANT kill him. We Tried VERY HARD to keep evreything MYTHY.

OK well i can sit here telling you about whats in store for another 10 pages but instead im gonna go play it online! So what are you waiting for?!? Go download it and MYTH IT UP!

SEEYA ON MARIUS.NET!

-Renwood

P.S Thanks to EVREYBODY that ever helped us in any way! ill try to give evreybody credit in the README later! the people id like to thank now that i can remember off the top of my head are: Oogabooga, Road, and the entire MythIV the wind age Devlopment team (Corbeau, Brute Squad, Matty sly, Fury, Krille, Guildernstern, Gugusm, Jon God) Deqlyn, Myrd, Melekor, Souly, DA, Godzfire, And all the other people are project magma that make awesome new features for the mythII 1.7.1 engine and beyond!

Thanks Khadrelt!
Yea thats our goal with this, to show what we think myth 3 should have been like. just like the advances from Myth TFL to myth 2, myth 3 should have been the same kind of leap from myth 2 to myth 3. Our advantage is we have the computing power of computers 10 years futher in the future then myth 3 could have realied on.

hope to see evreybody online!

Yes for those that love the new HD units but would like more "Normal" unit trades on maps. most maps take away all or most of the magic users if set to NORMAL difficulty

Point if you scroll down on the Oleg's ale house part of the forums in the top post ooga posted 66 screenshots. also i think toxyn has since uploaded them to our screenshot section. Then again...maybe not hehe

We will be releasing some youtube video tutorials that show gameplay and how to use the different unit's inventorys and weapons to maximum effect.

look for those in the next few days.

So, I had the pleasure of trying this out. Color me impressed.

Long have I made fun of Ren (and ooga I guess) for their devotion to myth 4 (as has a lot of the online multiplayer community) I had always thought that in the end it would be released and be some disappointing...something or other... (Sorry other people who developed myth 4, I have not really played with you guys)

However, it ended up being... Fantastic. I had to take back all the insulting things I've said about the myth 4 team for all these years (even if most of those things were in good fun)

The textures are amazing! Instead of the project magmas 'render noise' we had actual grass! Cracks in the mud! Rocks on the ground! It looked like a better and amazing version of myth 3. By far the best improvement. If this was on all the maps I could show the game to my friends and maybe they'd play it. Probably not though, as my playing of that 'decade old game' has become a running joke among them, but who knows.

The units were high res. Wonderful looking, with clear faces and fingers. (Possibly too high res, I was told they are 25x the amount of myth 2... I almost feel like 5-10x myth 2's size would be more than enough. I spend about 99% of the game zoomed out as far as I can, and any time more than 45 or so units were on the screen my FPS crashed to 15 or so, but I only have 128meg video card. Still.... a lot of myth players have older computers)

Anyway, i'd love it if these textures could be popped onto all the bungie maps without having to redownload them all (Similar to the magma texture patch. Can you guys do that, so I can have these wonderful textures on maps when im playing with normal guys?) Also a 'high res unit' plugin that i can just switch the units without changing them at all, just high res versions would be beautiful too...

In short it looks amazing, and it shows how much hard work was put into all of this. If one of you guys could post up a short tutorial on how to add textures to color maps as it is that would also be amazing because I could go back to 2001 and fire up loathing again and throw together a map or two, but I have NO idea how to add texture maps... anyway I'm rambling

in short, myth 4 is fucking awesome, go download it and if you have $5 send it to the team.

I did all the map texturing for the multiplayer levels in TWA Multiplayer demo. Thanks for the compliments, I think I did pretty well since I did the whole thing in around a week :)

Unfortunately it's a lot more work then just popping the textures over the current maps, it would take hours upon hours or reworking of the current texture maps. Not to say it wont happen, but since there is already a texture pack, and a volume 2 in the works, I don't think it's needed for me to do this.

While I haven't written a guide -yet-, feel free to ask me if you need help texturing a level, I will provide all the help I am able.

Again, thanks for the compliments, and if you like my texture work, keep your eye out for the update I am working on for Deadfall.

I have not downloaded it yet, but I'll do so as fast as I can.

One question though: Is the 4cores recommended thing for the 2nd and 3rd demo for real???? I hope so, because that means it must be damn good, but on the other hand... I'm on a dual core iMac :(

I'm pretty sure myth only runs on a single core... can Myrd or melekor confirm this? Maybe in the future it will be optimised for multi-cores though.

I fired some of the map and I can truely say that this is VERY beautiful! I have yet to try it online, but will do as soon as possible. Will also have to play on legendary to test those new units :)

It would be pretty fun to have comparison shots between non-detail textured/high res units and mythIV units on the same map (lol) Actually, I'll probably do that next time im on myth!
