in my opinion, the best intros for Myth II mapmaking for someone not already familiar with the details are

1) Heal With Steel's Mapmaking for Newbies - it walks you through about EVERYTHING you need to do to make a map - from A-Z. It's really good - and if you actually follow the tutorial you will have been exposed to all the major stuff you need and will have a working map at the end of the process.

2. The other guide that I use as a quick reference when I want to know how many colors something has to be indexed to, or what size a pregame picture is supposed to be is Cydonian's mapmaking guide.

You should at least READ one or both of these tutorials before you start making your map, once you have read them through you can start making your colormap.

The best colormapping guide is Clem's Colormapping walkthrough, available at http://mything.org/mythgraveyard/file/C ... lkthru.pdf

If you doing a solo / coop map/level Are's scripting guides are the reported to be quite good. http://mything.org/index.php?a=article- ... or&v1=ares

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
As you probably noticed, ALL of these guides (and many more) are archived at the Myth Graveyard. (http://mythgraveyard.org).

Was it a multiplayer or single player map? Did you give it its own "Map Description" which is where the title of the map goes? Was the mesh tag's "Is Complete" box checked? Did you hold Shift when you clicked on New Game?

Open your "mesh" file using Fear. On the window that pops up, look at the options under "Flags."

Checking the option "Single Player Map" will designate your mesh as a solo map, otherwise, Myth will consider it a multiplayer mesh.

However,

In the same "Flags" window you should also check "Is complete" if you would like it to appear in Myth.

Does it have its own Map Description? One that isn't being used on another map is what I mean by its own. The "Is Complete" box is in the mesh tag when messing with it in Fear. How can you not know if its a single player or multiplayer map when you made it?! To know for sure check the mesh tag in Fear. If it has "Single Player Map" checked, then it will show up in the single player maps, if it has any of the "Game Scoring Types" boxes checked, it will appear in the multiplayer maps.

To make plugins you must use Loathing and Fear. You won't be able to open your map if its in a plugin already. You would have to use a backup of the local folder that has the tags for the plugin you made or download UnTag from the Tain and use it to disassemble the plugin into your local folder. Then you can open Fear and mess with it.

Best way to learn is to mess around with the tools. Experiment a little and you could figure out the basics without needing a tutorial.

Take a look at these two documents: Fear and Loathing

The EASIEST way to figure out the steps is to FOLLOW one of the tutorials.

Seriously.

Suggestions people have made to you, which you either didn't pay attention to OR don't want to answer.

1) Did you create a unique name for you map? If you didn't, you can select the plugin but you won't see your map in the list of available maps when you are selecting the level/map you want to play. If you need to do this READ THE TUTORIAL where it talks about creating a name for your map using FEAR. I believe it's also mentioned in a checklist near the end of Cydonian's tutorial - he lists several things you need to have done before you can play a map.

2) Did you click the 'Is complete' switch/flag for your map in fear?

3) Did you check the appropriate game types in Fear? It has to either be solo, or you have to have at least one multiplayer gametype selected.

4) Read the tutorial (Heal with Steel's) and FOLLOW along doing the steps as they appear in the tutorial. IF YOU DO THIS you will end up with a playable map.

I don't mean to appear rude, but there are LOTS of mapmaking details which aren't simple or which aren't described all that well in the tutorials which people here (myself included) would be happy to expound upon, but these basic ones you are asking ARE in the tutorial and are easily answered by just referring to one of the tutorials I gave you links to.
