Messing around with a Mac OS 9

Post by The Vile »

People from ProjectMagma, I downloaded both Amber 2.0b6 and SheepShaver from your downloads section. In order to run Amber 2.0b6 I must run it on "Classic mode" of Mac OS 9, so how can I emulate this version of Mac in my PC? Is there any guide or step-by-step about how to do it? Also, how do I use SheepShaver correctly in order to run in my machine Mac-based programs like Amber? I'll gladly thank anyone who give me good answer!

Okay, I'm going for now...

PS: Please don't take me badly or believing I'm annoying with so much questions one after another, but there are some things I'm not managing to do successfully on my own, so this my reason for being so askingful... I'll try my best to soften up a bit...

I am not a sheepsHaver expert (Pyro is the resident SS expert here I would say), but if you follow the instructions for installing sheepsHaver you will see that you need a copy of a Mac OS 8.6 or Mac OS 9.0.4 CD (or something similarly old). The reason you need an old OS like this is to get the file that has a copy of the ROM that sheepsHaver needs.

Since neither of those versions of the Mac OS are in the public domain you will have to locate that on your own. If you know someone with an old Mac they could loan you their OS install CD, or you could probably buy one on ebay/craigslist/ or the email old mac classified list at lowendmac.com - that's all you need I believe.

A good source of SheepSHaver info (FAQ) is http://gwenole.beauchesne.info/en/proje ... r/help/faq

Your quoted url shows Sheep_SHAVER_... you're calling it sheep SAVER. it isnt.

I promise this application has absolutely NOTHING to do with saving sheep.

Download this file. It is about 5.84 MB in size. It includes all the files you need and a TXT file with instructions I put together.

Great link Pyro has passed to me (above)! Thank all you a lot, buddies! I've downloaded it, very complete and problem-solving for me! Currently I'm downloading via eMule an image of Mac OS 9.2.2 to see if it serves the cause. If you also want it and has eMule 0.46 (or upwards) installed, copy/paste the link below 'cause it's my time to give a hand on it:

SheepShaver won't be able to run that. You need 9.0.4 or earlier.

Yeah, what Myrd said. Mac OS 8.6 works, which is what I'm using.
