Using sprites as ingame units.

Post by TheKGB »

So, I was thinking of making some units, and I am just learning how to put things together in myth. I have NO knowledge of 3d Modeling, which seems to be the way to make units, but i was wondering, If i draw animated sprites, will I be able to use them in myth as units?

Myth2 uses sprites for units. The units are usually made with a 3D modelling program and then renders of it are taken at different angles. These renders or sprites if you will, are then used to make a collection tag. So yes, you can make the sprites by drawing them instead and then you need a collection editor to add them into myth.

but to look at all "realistic" or even myth-like you would have to draw each frame of each animation for every sprite from 8 different angles.

i mean you could do it by hand, but it's a mind numbingly huge amount of work - and very unlikely to end up with consistent looking animations.

any graphics can be ported into myth basically 256x256 pixels in dimensions 256 colors ...

from 1 view to 24 ... let the fun begin

if one does not learn from the failings of the past they are likely to suffer its return.

The units are going to be a little cartoony anyway, its really more of a test than anything, but I wasn't sure of how it exactly worked.
