Now that you've lost everything iron, you going to tell us how you did em? I've got my theories, but I'd like to compare to how you did the originals :P

You lost ALL your 3d models too right? I'm trying to get my hands on some myrmidons and thralls...

$1500 -- $180, whatever. If the original models for Blue and Grey, Bahl'al, the new Hi-res stuff, etc. is gone I'd be willing to contribute to at least try to get them restored. This is the same thing I'm convinced happened at Bungie, no Mymidons, or Forest Giants in Myth II because the solo Indigo2 that was doing all the modelling for TFL bought it and they weren't on a backup tape. The fact that Iron lost a hard drive full of original, semi-released Myth material leaves me with the same feeling as when The Mill disappeared before I had spidered it, that is, sad.

I have quite a lot of old stuff - the B&G units for instance are all safely backed up on CD. It was my current work, particularly Syndicate, that suffered the most.

Even so if you can model something once you can do it again, and I'd done a ton of work in bringing Syndicate back before the burnout set in. I had some good software for recovering data off the drive, but as you'd expect it was old unimportant stuff that I could retrieve for the most part, the rest being scrambled beyond hope.

It'd be really nice though if your $1500 could somehow transform Myth from being a little known proprietary game with a dwindling community into a freely downloadable game with a growing and thriving fanbase. I can but dream :)

On that thought :
I once got a copy of the kickass game Damage Incorporated, free with a Macworld magazine.
Has this happend with Myth yet? And if not - WHY NOT???

Yes, that would be nice. And I'd love to know how...
I have a hard enough time getting people I know who own the game and used to play it every day to play once a year with me. And I know its not cause they stopped playing computer games, and its not cause they don't still love Myth, so I guess it must be cause I'm a big jerk. Or maybe cause I keep insisting we play co-op campaign maps.

For me its caused by the absence of a community of players that I liked being part of, and games that were hosted every night that are now as rare as hen's teeth. I refer especially to the mariusnet of about 3 years ago, where there were at least 30 good TFL players on each night playing a wide range of stuff - Carnage, Creep, Grave, Unity maps and the good TFL co-ops. If I knew I could login to mnet or playmyth and have a good chance of seeing the same games and many of the same players then I'd be likely to fire up Myth.

As it is, the vast majority of games on playmyth just don't interest me & the old community is long gone, hence I'm happier to stick with my memories of the good ol' days :) It was only a matter of time before this killed my desire to make plugins as well.

Perhaps its same for other non-active Mythers ... I suspect that it is.

I too once partook of a multiplayer game at least once or twice a day. Over time, things just seemed to deteriorate, and those who I did find to battle against were either inexperienced, or horribly egotistical.

I would be willing to contribute financially to the recovery of your lost data, Iron, if you still have that drive hanging around somewhere.

Ya see, I'm not quite tired of online Myth yet because I've still got people to hang around/stalk/annoy.
At the moment I love playing with the Myth Jumpers, they're good good fun.

Before that, I used to like sneaking into games with ChrisP, Iron and those other udog peoples. Possibly the dudes I've gotten on with the most were the Glorious Sloths (now defunct of course).

Once the Myth Jumpers roll over and quit, maybe then I'll stop.

Industry wrote:So, is it worth it trying to raise $1500 to send that drive to a data recovery firm?

I have some pretty serious data recovery software.

I've recovered data from several "fried", "crashed" and "dead" hard drives with no unsuccessful attempts up to now.

Unless the surface of the disc is physically and severly damaged, I could give it a shot.

Of course, said hard drive is probably been disposed of long ago. :nocomment:

Bah, Iron! I know you're not a Mazz fan, but I'd definetly be up for hosting the vTFL equivelents of some of those old TFL maps. I think you'd like UTB too, so why don't you get that and lets pick a night for some games, eh?

And Thanos, you're welcome to come join in some late night games with us too. I think you'll find the group I play with neither inexperienced nor horribly egotistical.

See that's why I stopped playing with ChrisP.
1. I suck.
2. My ego is so big, you could use it as ballast on a zeppelin.

But aside from that yeah - go for it Thanos, these dudes rock.

Hey I've got a couple of wrecked hard drives from 10 year old Macintoshes. I stuck 'em in the freezer and it didn't do anything, got any advice?
