My guess is because it would triple RAM requirements as well as triple file sizes of plugins that took advantage of it (not that 200 submeshes won't mean huge file sizes) but forget all that. What you really want to do is somehow track down Melekor and beg him to finish the stuff he was working on.

I'll probably get into trouble (maybe a lot of trouble) for giving this peek into the vast vault of oh so sweet, nearly completed, yet tragically virtually abandoned Magma projects (if you only knew) but... this is really is so sad that maybe if we all stood on our rooftops calling out Melekor's name he'd come back and complete some of the amazing things he began.

This is a new rendering/texturing method Mel, more or less, had working with Myth:

Before:

After:

In game:

It gets even more tragic. Here's "Oak" a functional, powerful, all-purpose Myth editor which started out as a replacement for Amber. For both PC and Mac, if I remember correctly:

My brain is too small to imagine what it took for one person to almost ::sob:: finish a project this size. It gives more appreciation for people like CIK, and especially Myrd, who not only dedicate thier talents and time for such a small, and often unappreciative audience, but actually have the stamina and dedication to keep completeing stuff again and again.

Um, what's his email? his aim? his home address or phone number? his dog's groomer's number? Seriously, someone get ahold of him and pull him back!

I think I saw him on PMnet a few nights ago. Since I recognized his nick from the stuff ChrisP mentioned. Perhaps he came back for the MWC06? Who knows.

I'm pretty sure Melekor already knows that I wish he'd finish Oak, at the very least, but perhaps enough encouraging emails would do the trick. By all means, have at him.

I don't know quite how ecstatic I'd be if I could have a colourmap that wasn't quite as limited as the one I'm making at the moment. I mean, I've gotten a somewhat favourable index out of it, but to get it looking like those Gimble shots...

Hooah!
