Point taken, though the sequence was may more FPS than RTS (Myth looks like an abberation when you look at the big picture) The sequence was more like ...

? Gnop! (remake of Pong)
Strategy Game: Operation Desert Storm
FPS: Minotaur, Labyrinths of Crete
FPS: Pathways to Darkness (not a killer)
FPS: Marathon
FPS: Marathon II
FPS: Marathon III
RTS: Myth TFL
RTS: Myth SB
FPS: Oni
FPS: Halo
FPS: Halo 2
FPS: Marathon Duranadal (XBox 360 Live port of Marathon II)
FPS: Halo 3

I had Pathways into Darkness! Back in 1994 on my 6100/60, heh. What do you mean it was not a killer? Not popular, maybe? Not sure about that part, but it was definitely a game in which you keeled or were keeled by scary monsters in dark labyrinthine subterranean tunnels. Scar-y!

FPS: Oni
Marathon III was called Infinity, just for the record.

I'm confused about Oni. I'm not sure I would call it a First-Person Shooter because it is in Third person.

You're forgetting Weekend Warrior.

Now there was a weird one.

Oni is not a FPS. It is third-person hand-to-hand in which 'shooting' plays a minor role. I'm not sure it fits into any set genre.

*crosses fingers, knocks on wood, and prays for Oni 2*

Agreed, Oni is certainly not an FPS. Also, uh, RTT!

This wasn't an FPS either, if I remember right. Wasn't it more of an RPG?

Oh, and there was of course the side-scrolling shooter Abuse.

Not freeware, it sold for I think $20 - at least towards the end of it's run.

Minataur - I stand corrected. The descriptions I've read made it sound like a shooter. I could be misremembering though.

Oni: Ok, it's not a FPS it's a TPS/Combat. I was probably misremembering but I thought you could switch back and forth from Points of View. For general categorization purposes though Oni is way more like Marathon than it is like Myth. Which was my point in categorizing it as a FPS.

Abuse: Wasn't created by Bungie so I didn't include it, Bungie bought/repackaged/distributed it.

Weekend Warrior: Ditto. Bungie was the publisher, but they didn't create it.

Damn this is one technically picky bunch of people. (myself included)

Hey, I don't wanna be included amongst your picky ppl!
I'd only submit to inclusion in a list of non-picky ppl.

I was talking about sales/$/popularity, not the _quality_ of the game.

While I am sure there exceptions SOMEWHERE, in the entertainment world where quality is pretty subjective, 'Quality' is NOT at all related to sales/popularity.

Marathon was a killer game. Myth was a killer game. Halo was a killer game. Pathways to Darkness was NOT a killer, neither was Oni.

Oh, that kind of killer. Forbiddance lifted, at least until I manage to force reality to make PiD the success it deserved to be.
