I can verify that nothing substantial was developed, as I was the creator of the thread.

My poking around in 0AD showed me that It'd really need to be done as a team, there's no way I alone could take it on. That, plus a change in my work situation soon after that thread, pretty much killed any incentive & opportunity I had to pursue the project.

Which is not to say it couldn't be done :)
