MWC is a traditional event, and except for a few details, has maintained the same structure and style since the second event (MWC99). In this time of the game, tournaments are not nearly as common as they used to be. If you were around a few months ago, you could have played in a tournament I hosted which featured both 3v3 team play and team-free-for-all games. I also recently hosted a 5v5 vTFL tournament. Paris hosted a ffa tournament recently as well.
With regards to your interest in this years MWC, we can't force anyone to play and don't expect every single still-active myther to register. The more the better, yes, but we don't hate the people that chose not to play this year.
Concerning finding FFA games, you just have to be in the right place at the right time, and get to know the right people. There are plenty of guys who love ffa and tffa, but the amount of hosts is very limited. Also, friends follow friends, so if a group of 4 friends are online and 3 of them want to join a 12/16 team game instead of playing a ffa, odds are the ffa game won't happen. I find lately that there are more ffa games on Marius then PlayMyth, so you might want to try that. Personally I enjoy just about everything, and wish there was more people around to host like there was years ago. If you have a host, try hosting ffas more often in populated rooms. FFA players are out there, just not as much anymore.

we should have a mapmakers myth world cup, on ppl who have created a map or plug can enter each player can add 1 of their own maps to be played...would be interesting...i'd win obviously =)

Waiting for maps to finish would mean half the people signed up probably wouldn't care.

If the goal were to get the most possible people to play in a tournament it would be a tournament for a different game (e.g. Not Myth), OR if one insisted on setting up a Myth tournament where the goal was to get the MOST potential players to play it would only feature the FFA/team maps that shipped with the demo, because then anyone could download the demo and participate in the tournament, not just people who bought the game or downloaded it illegally from their lame ass pirate wannabe friends.
So the goal of a non-traditional tournament would be to have fun. How does one have fun? Imo. by NOT doing the same exact thing in the tournament that one has been doing for day after day after day for 10 years. e.g. Have non-tournament standard maps, non-standard units, non-tournament standard game types (omg, maybe even a game with a ball instead of a flag?) So if 15-20 people play the tournament who never played before that's great, and if most other people avoid it because they don't like change or don't want their myth skills tested in a different arena or with a different game, then that's fine too. THere's always the MWC and other more traditional tournaments. Note: This isn't a knock at the MWC, I am participating in the MWC, and it's a lot of fun.
