Base 32 B32 maps idea - Universal maps standards

I've been kicking this idea around for a couple years and have been doing it in my maps and it seems to work chime in your thoughts... Thanks..

Base 32 for universal Maps... (expanded from base 16 for myth v 1.5 and 1.6)


B32 MAPS
as regular myth units are replaced by tagsets by using base 32
map makers can make maps that work for many tagsets at once
if this base is included in the tagset.... at the very least it speeds up
the process.

The tagmaker must include replacements for each of these in tagset
32 light 32 dark unit tags at 1k each :) also 32 ai units... the map maker can then place any mix of these
on maps and as long as scenery etc... is included in map tag and not from
a specific tagset the maps should convert over nicely and still be relatively ballanced.

Units-set an sequivalant unit(monster) to each and save in tagset
-@Light vs +dark- set a light and dark replacement for each

(The unit Fear base can be found in my udogs folder)
simply set a unit and collectin reference for each)

NOTE: I will upload a newer current version with the ai units in the local as well..

MAP and terrain features....
B32 units need to be able to move on different terrains... faster speeds on various terrains ie rocky = road... units move faster on the road.

if implemented correctly all the units on the b32 test mesh will be replaced with your units... this includes all the regular myth units as well so its handy to see if your replaced them all correctly

Base 32 for universal Maps... 06-01-2008



B32 MAPS As regular myth units are replaced by tagsets by using base 32 map makers can make maps that work for many tagsets at once.

Base 32 is a base standard set to utilize the new limits in myth...
original myth could of handled a base 8 1.4 myth say 16 1.5 say 32 to 48 currently the myth limit for monsters collection references string lists have been raised and fine tuned to allow around 96 monster types per mesh.


If this base is included in the tagset.... at the very least it speeds up

the process by already placing like strength units on the map.



The tagmaker must include replacements for each of these in tagset 68 unit tags at 1k each :)

0-32 base units Plus the dark and light ai units. (note this can all be the same monsters though ai units might act differently than player controlled).


The map maker can then place any mix of these on maps and as long as scenery etc... is included in map tag and not from

a specific tagset the maps should convert over nicely.



This should also make it easier to have the plug work with say the demo version of myth.



Units- set an equivalent unit(monster) to each and save in tagset


-@Light vs +dark- set a light and dark replacement for each

#Scenery- Set equivalent scenery tags... (ie replace the default flags with your tagsets)

#STL- Replace String list text for your tagset


FOR REPLACEMENTS DOWNLOAD THE LOCAL FOLDER AND CHANGE THE UNITS to units in your tagsets... then include in final build of your tagset...


A sample mesh is provided to check in loathing whether your tagset replaces B32 and regular myth units...

Note:b32 maps use a terrain movement base. where the terrain will =roads etc allowing the units to move faster or slower based on their abilities in a given terrain, so adjust monsters in fear accordingly

I put a base 32 version in my udogs folder it may explain things a bit better ... sounds complicated but its very simply

I just got this idea. Let me see if I have it straight. Are you suggesting that when a map maker makes a new mesh that rather than filling it with warriors, archers, dwarves and jmen. He fills it with UNIT-TYPE1, UNIT-TYPE2, UNIT-TYPE3, and UNIT-TYPE4. That we all settle on a standard for what UNIT-TYPE1 will be in any given setting (for instance, warriors in the Bungie Setting) and then any map can be used in any setting just by changing the unit tagset?

It sorta makes sense. *sorta*. This would've been a good idea before people made maps for Myth already. But with the huge backlog of existing maps that don't use this sort of thing, you'll only have any new mapmakers going 'ah stuff it I'll just use warrior'. And so on.

Theres a b32 local in my udogs folder a test map... its a real easy way to make replacements for regular myth maps and for new tagsets to work on mulitple maps with easy placement and balance... each tagset has weak and powerfull units and using something like b32 makes conversion easy ... at least thats what i have found so far.. with all the new tags and tagsets in the works a standard for terrain movements and units makes a lot of sense... basically the goal is to make map making much easier for newbies coming into the community

B32 still alive and developing...
