Well that's about it. I can get the intro movie, but anything beyond that is a dream.

Hey don't blame Windows XP. Though I should try it... last time I had TFL installed I had it with the older update... I still haven't tried it with the 1.5 patch. Why you ask? Well... why do that when I have Myth 2.

A quick question. Is this copy of Myth your own copy or is it a backup downloaded via P2P?
I'm not trying to get you in trouble or anything, but I suspect that there's a corrupt .iso circulating the web...

Take a look at these threads:
PlayMyth.net Thread
Thread from this board
Another PlayMyth.net thread
I've found other threads but those are the only ones I could find it 5 minutes.
They all describe the same problem: Crow's Eye, Homecoming, The Watcher, etc., seemingly random levels either cause the game to loop back to the Main Menu or just plain kick the user to desktop.
I don't understand how this problem could get overlooked. I mean, IT'S THE FIRST LEVEL. You basically have to test it.
The only way around this problem is to use the spacebar cheat to skip levels. Even then, it becomes impossible to create veteran units and it's annoying to have to skip at least 5 levels that I know of.
Does anything have a copy of TFL that they know WORKS perfectly fine on Crow's Eye/Homecoming on WinXP?
I ask this because I need confirmation. I believe that there is a backup copy on the web that was ripped improperly (be it from a scratched CD or just a bad program). The copy I'm using I got from eDonkey2000 servers because for the life of me I cannot find my old games (Myth1/2, Freespace1/2, TIE Fighter, Alpha Centauri, etc).
This is what I've done for testing: I've run version 1.4 and 1.5 on two different WinXP machines and have gotten the same exact problem on both. I switched to linux, and ran the game in Windows98 emulation mode for a fresh install (1.3 - which is impossible under Win2000), and, guess what? Same problem. And that's on an untouched, straight from Bungie, 1.3 version install.
Now either wine and the ProjectMagma patches magically create the same problem (hah, never gonna happen), or Bungie released a broken game themselves (which didn't happen). The only other alternative I can find is that this is a bad disk image.
I tried 1.4 and 1.5 under linux for kicks and the same problems emerge.
So again, I will ask if anyone has gotten TFL to work properly in WinXP.

Myth TFL 1.3 (Bungie's last version) works on Windows XP, with the proviso that you don't have more than 640mb of RAM active and you run it under Win98 emulation mode. You can run a program under emulation mode by right clicking on the exe and setting it in the options.

All my machines have at least a GB of RAM, so I can't test it. But I got 1.3 to work under Linux so the point is moot.
I'm pretty sure at this point that if anyone else comes to the forums with this problem you can tell them that they downloaded a corrupt copy.

You can limit the quantity of active Ram in Windows by running msconfig.exe, going to Advanced and setting Ram to be limited to a certain number of megabytes. Remember to deactivate it after you've run TFL though.
It would be interesting to compare the MD5 hash of the Myth_TFL.exe executable from this downloaded image. I assume the executable is version 1.3?
Here is a program that creates MD5 hashes:
http://www.md5summer.org/
Could you tell us the MD5s of the following files from the downloaded image?:
artsound.gor
CUTSCENE.gor
tags.gor
Myth_TFL.exe

I will create the MD5 hashes to confirm all of this after my exam tonight.
But first, the big news. I copied my friend's Myth CD and it works fine. All the levels that wouldn't work before load perfectly. On both machines, on any version, using any OS.
It was exactly as I suspected. So I guess we can say that this thread (withh all the others) is solved.
Solution: Find a new copy.
I can now enjoy another campaign of Myth I II & III

Well, I can say that I *did* download it:
ed2k://|file|Myth.-.The.Fallen.Lords.ISO|490782720|7568D02FFB7F8DE683A3A4ED6AE63086|/
If someone thinks this hash is inappropriate please delete it, I do not intend to spread any pirate stuff or such. The thing is that I know of noone who has this game and no shop which would sell this game. If I ever see, I'll buy, but who knows when if ever...
So the easiest way was to download, and seemingly this is the culprit here. Thanks.

Well eBay and Amazon both have Myth I, II, and III. And they are less than $10. Shipping is what you basically pay for.

Does anyone else get the same numbers?
There're many shops that carry TFL listed on http://froogle.google.com . If you have bought TFL before and have merely lost your CD, you could try downloading artsound.gor

Well, I might even find some shop that is in europe and ships to my country
At least I won't be paying 2-times the price for mail delivery It definetely is easier to download it than to search a *few hours or days* to get it... (just making excuses here).
Now that download failed I will get it
Thanks again.
