I have an ATI Radeon Graphics Card on a 2 gigahz machine with a gig of RAM. I'm wondering if I should choose software, Direct (ATI 3d RADEON) or OpenGL rendering.

Which is fastest? I think that's what matters most to me.
But also, which consumes more memory?

Please outline the pros and cons of the different choices.

Software mode is likely the worst looking and slowest of the three. There is no good reason to use it unless neither of the alternatives are working. Software mode means calculations which would otherwise be done in the video card's hardware are being done in software running on the CPU.

Whether Direct 3D or OpenGL is faster depends on your video card's drivers. You can press the Delete key while in-game to see the number of frames per second that are being displayed. Usually OpenGL is the best 3D accelleration method... when it works - support for it often isn't as good as with Direct 3D, which means it can sometimes be unstable or slow.
