Hi, I've just been getting into Myth 2 having never played it before, and have a question about the camera.

The game runs at a great fps with no slowdowns, but the camera behaves in an erratic fashion, lke you might expect from a game running at a low, lumpy frame rate ie it doesn't turn smoothly, but jerks a little back and forth when it moves and pans.

I've searched the forum thoroughly and have tried all sorts of different tweaks, renderers, earlier patches, beta 152 and even rolled back my drivers but I can't change it.

So I was wondering if this is just the way the camera always was and is in Myth, and I should just put up with it?

Fwiw my specs

3500+ A64
x800xt
Abit av8
1gb memory
Winxp

Cheers

Hmm it shouldn't be doing that.

I recommend you try downloading the latest beta build 279, install the Classic Myth II build, and in the Myth II preferences select "Windows hacks for lag" and see whether the stuttering continues.

Yep already tried that, no luck.

Check and see if you have any processes(ie spyware) running that are eating up your CPU on a periodic basis.

Go to myspace and maybe open up a few windows of really crappy pages that eat away at your memory, like say 80 megs. Then leave it running in the background while you play myth.

No, i'm not kidding.

Cu03 that works! I rechecked your old thread then and I must've skimmed that part. I get the exact same thing you mentioned too with the occasional stutter every 3 secs but its a lot better than the jerkiness. Bizarre.

CIK I've got no problems with spyware, but we both just reproduced the exact same thing there so its something of a clue.

Well it's sound related. The myspace webpage opens up a music player, and I got the same result to the camera smoothness just by leaving windows media player open in the background.

I'll have more of a play with this later.

btw I'm using an A2 value with the latest drivers.

Have you turned 3D sound off in the preferences?

Yes mate all that stuff has been tried. If you like just list all the dumb stuff first and I'll confirm I've tried it.

We've stumbled across something here, dunno what, could be something stupid or not. Give me some time and I'll play around with different sound driver versions and whatnot.

Well driver versions made no difference. Just turn on windows media player and leave it in the background and the camera smooths right out except for some little hitches and stutters.

Only other thing I notice is that me and Cu03 are both running XP SP2, might have to give SP3 a go, tho I cant think of a reason why that'd help for such an old game.
