Sequences - registration & key points

I'm currently working on the animation editor for Oak and I've come across these two things: the registration and key points. I'm not really sure exactly how they work, I'm hoping someone here will be able to help me out.

I've been able to figure out that the registration point is used to align all the frames in a sequence with eachother, since they are all different sizes. I've also noticed that in attack sequences, the key point appears to be where projectiles are created.

That's about it though, so there are still a lot of unanswered questions:

-Does the registration point also determine where ground level is?
-Does the key point do anything in non-attack sequences?
-Does the key point do anything on non-key frames?
-Do either of these points do anything else interesting?

If anyone can answer some of these, that would be great.

-Yes Im pretty sure registration point (green dot in amber) determines ground level.

-I always thought the key point (red dot in amber) determined where proj groups started as well but unsure of this.

- the key point can be in different places for each frame/view thats all I know but I usually set them right (where I think they should be) in all of the veiws and or frames. Not sure if this is needed or not.

-not sure what else these points do.

questions remaining: (and at this point, these are just for my personal interest, I already know enough to code the editor now)

-Does the key point do anything in non-attack sequences?
-Does the key point do anything on non-key frames?

Doesn't blood issue from the key point as well? Although I guess blood is a proj.

as ozone said, the key point may be the source of a local projectile group if one is attached to a monster. this is obviously in effect in all frames.

i'm not sure where blood issues from. if it's a ranged attack like an arrow, i think it comes from the point of contact, but melee attacks may cause blood to issue from the key point of the attacker on the key frame.

i'm not in a position to test and double check any of this right now, though.

The registration point is simply a centre-point that everything else (bitmaps, shadows and key points) are relative to. And yes, key point is for projectiles, but only really is needed on the key frame, though you can add it in on all frames if you wish.
