Since my old (new) monitor went bang a month ago, I had to use my old (old) monitor, when loading myth, the screen flickers 4-5 times and the main menu and lobby screen doesn't take up the whole screen. I tried deleting prefs but that didn't help since theres no prompt asking me how I want my screen when I start. I'm on win XP home if that matters

It sounds like its refusing to allow your resolution to switch to 640x480...

Yes, for some reason it decides to use 640x480 in screens size. In the myth properties, its set to run it maximised, I run 1024x768 in desktop and ingame, just its annoying to have a small lobby and main menu

What OS are you using?
If it's OS X, hold down the option key when starting up and deselect window mode.

doh...thanks Myrd....
Ditto on what Iron said. The Windows client will try to switch to 640x480 and will display it in a different rez is if fails to switch. Setting it to maximize probably isn't help though, Myth will maximize it's window to the screen size.

Would reinstalling myth possibly help?
