But seriously, what an easy way of reproducing chincy cello sounds ala BUNGiE circa 1997!

My band Melochromatic has its stuff up at GarageBand... give it a listen. http://www.garageband.com/artist/melochromatic

That cello stuff is just a synth... shouldn't take a very expensive synth or keyboard to reproduce that kind of sound.

Indeed! I was just registering my joy that the Symphony Jampack had such Mythy sounds on it (when compared to the bland strings that came with Garageband originally).

I'm glad you're enjoying GarageBand. I myself am working on a soundtrack for a personal project with it. It's good to hear that the Symphony Jampack has good myth sounds, as I've found it to be a royal pain to creat any sort of string piece just running the original Garage band.

Question: Does the symphony pack come with drums? I've been trying to create a drum track similiar to the one used in Across the Gjol, but GarageBand can't seem to handle it.

Also, are you using Garaband 2 or 3?

Its GarageBand 3, and it comes with a couple of percussion types as I remember.... it has just an 'Orchestra' drumkit, which is like a GM drum set but with orchestral equivalents (all sounding pretty good I think).

There's also a Timpani set, which sounds awesome because you use modulation settings to get different sounds (rolls, or whatever).

Probably a couple of other kits... I'm not sure exactly how Mythy they are, but I've been looking for TFL sounding drums for years!

Maybe this'll be familiar to some of the younger players around.

It's not quite as authentic I feel, because I heard that Marty got himself Spectrasonic voice samples or some such, which are pretty speccy compared to the World Music Jampack!
