The Onyx Warlords Present: The Power of Ten Mapmaking Contest!!
Are you a Fear and Loathing monkey? A retired mapmaker looking for one last project? A new mapmaker looking to make your mark on the community? Or have you never touched the editors, but want to give it a try? Strap on your toolbelts and prepare for the Power of Ten!
THEME: History has taught us that, rather than being a hindrance, contests that require a specific themed limitation on their entries often benefit all sorts of creativity, inevitably resulting in a crop of excellent and fun submissions. The challenge of this contest will be to create a great map using a limited number of unit types, the maximum being, naturally, ten.
TIME LIMIT: The contest will begin on Thursday, February 8th, 2007, and will end on Thursday, April 19th, 2007.
RULES:
1. Each map may use no more than ten monster tags; this includes Light, Dark, ambient life, uncontrollable characters, inventory/artifact switching, and invisible monsters for effects or scripting purposes.
2. Maps will be made by teams of no more than two mapmakers; one man teams are allowed, and mapmakers can be on as many different teams as they want.
3. Entries may only consist of a single map and must be for solo/co-operative play; teams may submit as many entries as they want.
4. Maps may not have been worked on whatsoever prior to the contest's start, and may not be worked on by anyone outside of the submitting team.
5. Teams may develop new meshes, units, and effects as necessary. Using existing third party resources is allowed, as long as you get permission and give credit. Creating new resources will almost certainly help your score; borrowing from other mapmakers will not necessarily help or hurt.
JUDGING: Scores will be evaluated by a team of four judges, consisting of members from the Onyx Warlords, and will be based on originality, quality of map, quality of script, and good use of resources within the contest limitations.
REGISTRATION: We would like to ask contestants to please register their usernames in our Forums, and then drop a private message to any of the judges, informing us that you wish to compete, whether alone or with a team mate. If you intend to compete on multiple teams, let us know who your partners will be. This will help us with organizing submissions at the end of the contest.
SUBMISSIONS: Upload your entries to the Udogs hotline or any other available webspace, and message the link to a judge. If you are unable to obtain such webspace, message one of the judges to set up an e-mail or instant message transfer.
PRIZES: The winning entry will receive a minimum of a $100 prize and the recognition of the Myth community. More goodies may come to surface over the coming months, and may be added to the list. All entries will be released as a plugin pack after judging has been completed, though, of course mapmakers may release their maps separately as well.
