Hello, myth fans!
I'm firelove, and I'm new to the multiplayer part of the game.
The first time I played myth was 7 years ago, when i was just 9 yo. I've loved the game since the Crow's Bridge.
I passed TFL, and I forgot about the game, until 3 weeks ago, when I bought Myth 2: Soulblighter. Now, my love has started again.
I wanted my friends to play the myth series and know the story, but they don't speak a really good english (i'm from argentina, and we speak spanish. that's why my english sucks), so i wanted to translate the game.
I know. Maybe it's impossible, but i want to try at least.
So, is there anyway I can edit the files so i can write the story again, but in spanish?
Thanks for your help (even if the only thing you can tell me is that it's impossible)

hi firelove, I'm from argentina too, though I don't live there
you can translate the dialogues but it would be really painful
there's a ton of "string lists" as they are called the dialogue lines in english
and you could translate them to spanish so the game has spanish subtitles
what you cannot translate are movies.
if you go into fear,
then go into string lists,
let's say you get into
01 subtitles
and it would look something like this:
The town is under attack! Run for your lives!
What the heck are those?
you basically can copy past all the text into let's say babel fish, to obtain something like this:
¡La ciudad está bajo ataque! ¡Funcione por sus vidas! ¿Cuál el heck es ésos?
so as you see babel fish translates like hell, but you get the idea, and you can then correct what's wrong with it.
then after correcting you delete the english subtitles and place your spanish ones and hit OK
then in the game preferences once playing select SUBTITLES on
and voila, your friends can play with a subtitled version.
hope you get the idea, if not shoot me a PM (private message) and I'll explain this in spanish
chau

You should translate it into Old Norse instead. Your friends will have even less ability to understand it, but it will be cooler.

Welcome to Myth 2, firelove. Your English is really good, don't worry about that!
make sure to check out
Mariusnet.com and
playmyth online there.

Yea, the "only" thing you have to do is to translate string lists tags. But it could take veeery long time if you do that by yourself.

Damn! that's exactly what i wanted to translate =(
And ok, i'll give it a try with fear.

I don't worry about time. I'll have plenty of time when I finish this school's year at the beginning of december.
you basically can copy past all the text into let's say babel fish
is that a computer translator? I hate them...
And I don't have any problem understanding english. In fact, I can read, understand and translate quite well, but my problem is when i try to speak or write in english. I don't know why.
You should translate it into Old Norse instead. Your friends will have even less ability to understand it, but it will be cooler.
Old Norse? which language is that?
Also, I could try, and translate it to
quenya.
Your English is really good, don't worry about that!
Thank you! I wish the teacher who's going to test me at the end of the year say it to me too
Btw, the other day I played my first net game on mariusnet...It was really fun xD
And thank you to all the people who helped me!

Old Norse is, roughly, the language the Vikings spoke (though I believe early Vikings would have spoken Proto-Norse). A sample from the Egils Saga, courtesy of Wikipedia:
Egils Saga wrote:ÞgeiR blundr systor s egils v þar aþingino & hafði gengit hart at liþueizlo við þst. h bað egil & þa þstein coma ser t staðfesto ut þangat a myrar h bio aðr fyr suNan huit a fyr neþan blundz vatn Egill toc uel aþui. oc fysti þst at þr leti h þangat fa ra. Egill setti þorgeir blund niðr at ana brecko En stein fǫrði bustað siN ut yf lang á. & settiz niðr at leiro lǫk. En egill reið hei suðr anes ept þingit m flocc siN. & skilðoz þr feðgar m kęrleic
Which demonstrates that the language I was actually thinking of was Proto-Norse, because then you get the fun Elder Futhark, but this is probably good enough to start with.

I did it!

Yes!! I did it!
I used Fear, as Carlinho said. Now I have the first level (Willow Creek) edited!
Here's a screenshot.
And I realised that carlinho was wrong...the movies CAN be edited (unless he was talking about the anime-like movies)
But now, i have another question: if i edit these strings list, which tag gets edited?

Now I will auto-answer myself: No tag is edited when you change the text. Instead of that, Fear creates some new files in the local folder that overwrite the files in the tags. If you want to have the english myth again, you just have to delete thess files and that's it!
I've translated 5 stories of the journal so far.
here they are if you want to beta test them xD
http://www.filesend.net/download.php?f= ... 78517e4e86
Thess files go in: c:/program files/myth 2/local (or wherever you have your myth 2 folder)
PLEASE, BACKUP EVERY FILE YOU HAVE IN THAT FOLDER. I don't want to mess your things up.
Remember: to get your english myth back, just delete the new folders inside the local folder.
PS: sorry about the double post...

Hey firelove, when you've got all the translation done please let us know. It'd be good if we could add them to the various Myth II 1.6 download pages, as then it'd be available to all native Spanish speakers

yeah I was talking about the anime movies
you could also instead of doing subtitles voice over all the dialogues into spanish...hehehe
but that could probably take you looooooong time and acting would never be as nearly as good, unless you use professional voice over.
it would be cheesy too...ha, I wouldn't imagine even alric with argentine accent..haha

great! i was just thinking about that!
i'd be very glad if i could do something for my beloved Myth
It won't take too long. I'm almost pretty sure.

about the subtitles...it's not a bad idea, but they don't speak too much on the movies, so I think it's not necessary.
about the Alric's argentine accent: LOL! Imagine the last scene of "The Last Battle" in TFL. And Alric saying something like: "Vamos guachos! Cortenle la jeta al p*** este!"

You probably already know that when you are all done you can make everything in your local folder (e.g. all the string files you edited) into a plugin that will be easier for players to install.

And when 1.7 is released, you can make it an "add-on" - which will be a special type of plugin that will always be active (like a patch), but won't make games red (so players may have different add-ons installed and still play together ... obviously these add-ons are restricted to only specific types of tags that don't affect gameplay).

Similar to the 1.6 interface setup?
