Major lag in complex games

Thank ya muchly for your help!
Games like caer and Keep cause serious lag for me. Other larger games also cause me to lag inward of about 5-8 minutes.
I gotz this (I'm not that technical suave)
17" screen
Windows XP Pro
AMD Sempron 3300+ 2.0GHz OEM Processor
1.09GHz (I don't know what this is)
2 gig of RAM, I just installed another gig..cause I thought it would help. So I have 3 sticks in now. one is 400mhz 1 gig I just put in and the other 2 are 512mb with 333 or 400mhz? I forgets

NVIDIA GeForce 6200
256MB
64-bitDDR II

I have seen some games close to 300fps. Today I played some with scs and spa...it was at 70, then hit 10 when I lagged real hard.

I have newest build of 1.6 in classic install.
I had the windowed install in originally...but it wouldn't allow me to gesture click and I lagged (thank you for that previous help) So I was told to install classic and it was fixed.

SCS told me to check the Direct Imput box in the controls section of prefs. I do think this helped. I have the hack for windows box checked (not sure what it does). I do NOT have the box that limits my fps..like everyone keeps telling me.

Thanks
Jason

Dio I bet that you have drivers problem - you need to find proper drivers for your g card and Myht . I am still on old nvidia FX5200 - sometimes fps dropped to something like 6-8 O.o so I wrote "fx5200" and "best drivers" in google, dled five or six diffirent nvidia detonators and tested em all. Now Myth never drops below 100 fps for me.

I agree with Tireces. The reason you do not have the box that can limit your fps is because you are using the 1.6 classic build instead of the windowed build. Since you are on XP, I advice you to install the windowed build and install different (or updated) video card drivers. I have an ATI card but for sometime my computer would have problems with the latest ATI drivers until I decided to use Omega drivers instead. They might also make drivers for nVidia but I can't be too sure. Remember that there are two rendering modes you should find out which works best for you. Sometimes Direct3D works for some while others work best with OpenGL.

Try downloading the latest drivers Dio
http://www.nvidia.com/page/home.html

Do you have the latest version of Direct X installed too?

You can have both the Classic and Modern Myth II executables in your Myth 2 folder at the same time and choose between them. The Modern build runs for me but cannot work with the renderer.

On a side note, are you sure you've got your display running at its native resolution?

I found this...

and this...
http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=1028
After reading a few of the posts..it made me nervous to just DL any randumb driver. I am software stoopid.

I think I have version 9 of direct X.

define native resolution for me please? When I read this, I think of an american indian out of focus. :p Or the default resolution.

If you type "native resolution" (with the quotes) into Google, the very first result at the very top of the list gives you the definition - most of which you can read without even clicking the link.

You can download the latest version of your video card's drivers from here:
http://us.download.nvidia.com/Windows/1 ... h_whql.exe

A 17" monitor's native resolution will usually be 1280x1024, but may be something odd like 1440x900 if it's a "widescreen" model.

Thanks again scs. I learned something!
I couldn't find anything on how to find your native resolution. But I did find 2 different websites that talked about it.
1 said it should be 1024by768
the other said 1280 by 1024.

I read a few articles about how gamers refuse to use a LCD monitors. This must be important.

Yeah I found that driver yesterday and installed it...I haven't found anyone to run tests with me yet. Thank you very much sir.

There aren't any 1024x768 17" LCDs; 1024x768 is the native resolution of 15" LCDs. 1024x768 was a typical optimum resolution for 17" CRTs, although I always used 1152x864 with mine until it died. Unless your LCD is a weird oblong shape, it's sure to be 1280x1024 - try setting your desktop and Myth on that.

Make sure you're using the DVI link between the video card and monitor if there is one too. It's much sharper than analogue.

That must be old information as CRT monitors are hardly available nowdays. Early LCDs were bad for gaming because of poor refresh rates, bad contrast ratios, dead pixeling and high resolutions, but those aren't really issues anymore. My LCD is old and medicore but I don't find it to be a problem in Myth.

not as popular or ubiquitous as LCD monitors true, but 'hardly available'?

Yep, I counted Newegg carrying 60+ LCD models and 4 CRT models. Similar to worse ratios here http://www.pricespy.co.nz/cat_5.html . Many would just be old stock of moribund lines. Soon they'll be gone forever.

for what it's worth, CRT is still the "best" display technology. It trumps LCD and plasma in pretty much every way in terms of image quality.

Production studios still use CRT.

That said, your average user is unlikely to notice a difference in image quality with todays high end LCDs and plasmas.

I've got a professional CRT, and a fairly inexpensive HDTV, properly configured it's almost impossible to tell the difference (and the HDTV is much bigger so I prefer to see image at a larger size than have it absolutely spot-on). You get things for calibrating LCDs and CRTs properly, they make a surprising difference.

I think the main thing I've found is that LCDs/Plasmas usually aren't calibrated very well when you first hook them up.

I plugged my system into a 13" black and white TV, so I am rolling.
Thanks for the help guys...the updated driver helped a lot.
I have yet to lag.
I didn't know driver got outdated.
