I've noticed really long links tend to stretch out and mess with forum pages. I know there are a lot of plugins that will automatically shorten how the link displays while still maintaining its integrity. Maybe worth looking into, forum mods?

It's better if people use the correct coding

Links are annoying difficult to do, if you wrap them in <div> tags then while they'd be fine on most browsers they'd be even worse on Internet Explorer.

I'm sure I tried a javascript to try and truncate them as well, but didn't have much luck, hmm.

I agree. This is a piece of cake to do. We don't need forum mods to do it.
Quote this message to see my coding to my Frumious Wightblast page. It's easy. In fact, when you make a post you can even simply hit the URL button above the text field! Then you add in your URL and descriptive text and don't even have to think. It can't be made any simpler than that.

I don't know what URL shortening is... but I don't think we need it. And we don't need IE at all.

It's just a plugin installed to the forum software that shortens how long links display.

becomes

http://www.mapquest.com/directions/main ... &do=nw&rmm...

But both links lead to the same place.

I'd suggest to do what Horus and Frum wrote when your link is too long... it's so easy.

Don't misunderstand, I'm not really worried about my links. It's just that not everyone takes the time to use the URL tags and just one long link puts the page in the state you see it right now.

Yep, I know, so everyone just should shorten it in any way he wants...
