Hello all,

I'm laggy in my myth2 multiplayer games. I thought myself the problem was my connection was to slow (30 till 80 kb/s), but Omicron said he could play on 1,9 kb/s dailup! Notice my connection is wireless. Omicron told me to post my specifications here:

I'm connected through my airport (i thought it had the letter G) .
I use macosx 10.4.11
I'm on an imac with 2,16 GHz, Intel Core 2 Duo. 1 GB 677 mhz DDR2 SDRAM. 256 mb video card.

Preferences in myth2:
Ambient sounds ON
In game subtitles ON
Menu music ON
High resolution ON
3d fog: OFF
Landscape Filtering: OFF (I can't turn it on, it's greyed out)
Windowed: OFF (strange, since I select window mode at startup)
MaxFPS: OFF
Rendering: OpenGL, I have no other option
Resolution: 1680 x 1050
show status bar&show control bar on, rest of the options turned off. I use an standard interface. (main menu has green beret picture).

I hope you guys can help me, and Omicron told me to drop to an lower resolution, but that didn't really help much. You guys have any idea what I can do?

Thanks alot, killerking.

Are you sure your wireless is secure and not being used by a 3rd party?

Is your ISP connection via wireless? Latency can be bad on wireless connections. Latency is more important than throughput for something like Myth.

Well, I'm a noob when it comes to this: what are latency and ISP connection and throughput? Does dropping down to an lower resolution really help or is that just bullshit?

I have a great connection and play many first person shooters with no lag at all. When I returned to myth (2 year vacation) and set myself up to play I was shocked that everything was so laggy...I couldnt even type durring a game!
Someone asked if I was useing "modern" or "classic" build and I took a peek and saw that I was useing the "modern" build (who wouldnt, the name implies its newwer, right?) so i went ahead and reinstalled myth with "classic" and sure enough NO LAG!
Thats just what happened to me and your situation might be differant but you may want to take a look into that.

Dropping your resulution will help too but I recommend doing what I did first, lowwer resulution is no fun.

You need to understand that "lag" is about the internet connection. This is not the same as poor in-game video or CPU performance, although the two are sometimes confused.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lag

Lowering the resolution won't help if it's an internet problem. Wireless internet has high throughput but is more prone to poor latency (network lag) than fixed line connections. When you say you are connected via wireless, I immediately wonder if someone else is the using your connection, which they can do if it isn't secured.

Throughput = the quantity of data going through
Latency = the length of time each piece of data takes to go through
ISP = internet service provider; who you pay to connect to the internet

Did this problem just start happening after previously being ok? Or did you do something new like get a new computer or internet connection?

Try turning MaxFPS on to 20fps.

Heya guys,

I think that maxFPS turning to 20 helped, but it makes my camera control suck :( . Now an question about that modern/classic builds: I have an myth universal application and a myth application. I use the universal one, but which do you advice? + why the heck would you reinstall???
Oh and eddaweaver, my CPU is fine, like i said in first post.

I'm not sure why that is. I only have around 20fps and my camera control is fine. Try setting the max to 30fps.

That is to do with there being Intel Macs and PPC Macs. You can try the other one, but I doubt it'll improve things.

Some people have had some trouble with dualcore/hyperthreaded Intel CPUs and Myth. I don't know whether that could be an issue here. Can OSX set an application's affinity to a single core?

Could you please answer this:

It helps if we know how this problem started and if it started after something changed.

ok:

Did this problem just start happening after previously being ok
: Yes it was ok before and I could play normally. Though I SOMETIMES had some lag.
Or did you do something new like get a new computer or internet connection?
: Not that I know.
Also, I didn't really change something, but my overall connection (browsing etc.) was better some time ago.

This makes me think it is directly related to your internet connection.
What possibilities come to mind:
* your internet connection hardware has become faulty
* your computer has some kind of virus/worm/spyware/trojan/malware
* you have an unsecured wireless network connetion that is being used by a 3rd party
* your internet service provider's service has deteriorated or is being interrupted somehow

KK, another Myther was having the same problem as you. It turned out that someone else was using his wireless connection.

So make sure you have WPA encryption going
