I know we have talked about it before if not in this forum somewhere else. We always are looking for NEW members but what about looking in our own backyard.

Anyway to send a PM/email to all users of this forum (since they are tied to emails) about a topic say... Myth 1.7 when it is released or something more enticing like Ren and Toxyn's project or any other map releases? Could be some oldbees out there looking for a hobby.

Got to have your music playing when the parade marches by. Heck maybe even a M2 newsletter about upcoming events etc... i.e. Mazz game Oct. 28th Legendary coop. Or MWC MWS etc...

What are your thoughts?

The 'pm' thing would be problematic as people generally like to know when they signup for something whether or not they are going to be sent junk or not. one man's 'crucial myth update' is another's spam/junk.

Otherwise it's a bit of a mystery how to contact people. The only people you have easy access to on the forums are people who read the forums fairly frequently, but you need a way of contacting the people who _don't_ read the forums regularly.

I guess you could post a plea for people on forums to subscribe to a Myth related email/news list, and ask them to forward the info to anyone they know who plays Myth, but other than that you are kind of left with brute force individual pms to forum/site members.

note: If you do create some kind of email newsletter you want people to subscribe to, make sure you have it all working _before_ you post/send the info out. (ex. something like http://groups.google.com/group/myth-news)

Back in MWC07 we campaigned to get Blades to e-mail everyone with a PlayMyth account and he refused. That really sucked.

We e-mailed everyone who signed up as a team captain for MWC06, though. It got some people to return.

If you REALLY wanna do something like that, just PM everyone yourself O_o

Apparently someone was doing something along those lines - emailing a 'return to myth' advert to a large # of old myth players (old in game years, not human age years) back in the spring or early summer - think there was a topic or mention of it over on mariusnet.

To be fair, I am guessing the Terms of Service for playmyth when one signed up probably said something about emails NOT being used for anything not specifically related to a person's account on playmyth. So, iF Blades had given in to your request and spammed his entire memership list he could have ended up with hundreds (thousands?) of people pissed off that they were getting 'spam' from a site that told them they WOULDN'T receive any spam, and even more annoying might be the fact that they were getting spam from a site they hadn't even visited in years.

If playmyth had a no-email clause in it's new member signup/readme, as much as you want a different outcome, Blades was keeping his word.

Or we could try to revive alt.gaming.myth, since it already exists.

I thought those alt dot thingies died out when teh internets was out shinied by the world wide web.

do people actually still use alt dots? or maybe I should ask if people under 30 use them?

on a somewhat related note, i have a newer 'official' version of the FAQ that used to be distributed there, but I think Pyro's reIntro to Myth document is much more current and is organized much more intuitively.

alt.games.warcraft seems to be pretty active.

And the Myth one was active back in the days of Bungie.

To get new players there needs to be a new myth.

This will also bring back old players. But trying to contact old players is good idea, only problem is you will be trying to bring them back to something they have allready seen and decided to leave years ago.

if somebody from battelfield 1942 e mailed me years after i left it, that wouldnt get me back into playing it.

1.7 is really awesome with great new features, only bummer is there isnt much all new content to go with it. (all new maps, campains/coops)

If only someone in the community had the vision, talent and time to tackle the enormous project of creating a new Myth game....

To be fair, 1.7 is not released yet.

Not everyone who left Myth, left it for good. How many times have old Myth players return only to be surprised people still play it.
