No offense meant here but the fact of the matter is, Onyx IS a group of master mapmakers. Until skills that _we need_ are presented and demonstrated to us to be "good enough" (subjective term decided by yours truely) we begin the talks of joining the group. However, I fear in your particular case that's going to be a long ways away still. Keep asking specific questions for specific help, get really good at something, then come ask again.

have you released any of your maps to the public? have you posted any to the tain?

i am not in onyx warlords, but showing someone what you can do is always more effective than talking about what you can do. and i like new maps, so let me know where i can download these 10-15 maps.

btw, glad you found the myth community - with all the mapmaking experts here, your knowledge level will probably double just by hanging out with these guys for a few weeks.

balor,

if your maps are completed and you think they are decent, you should definitely submit them to the tain.

if you aren't sure if they are ready to be released and would like some people to test them, just post something here and/or on the mariusnet forums i am sure you can find a couple of people to help you test.

ps. re: A mapmaking group: there really aren't many (any?) left these days. There's Onyx, there's Magma, and there are projects where a couple of people or three are working together but i haven't heard much of anything about 'formal' mapmaking groups/orders in a long time. there's been a couple others in recent memory but they seem to have dissapeared - at least as a visible presence in the community.

As VR has outlined, in this day and age, there arent really any mapmaking groups left. And to be entirely honest, joining Onyx would probably jsut make you disappointed. We're a bunch of slackers. We know how and what we're doing, but we don't get around to doing it all too often, that's certain.

I'd highly take VR's advice and just take some of your produced content and release it solo author style. Get some recognition!

And on that note, as VR also stated, seeing speaks louder than hearing. Lets see some of your work, maybe your skill level is totally on par with us and we'll take you in right away, who knows?

The other fact of the matter is, if you join Onyx you have to be somewhat willing to put aside personal ambitions to help finish the big project, that's priority for us. If you're part of onyx and producing your own content by yourself, what's the point of being in onyx? We work on group projects, and if one don't share interest in helping with said projects, I don't see the purpose of them being part of the group. On that subject, if you wanted to release your new content and call it an onyx project and give us all credit, that's fine too lol :D
