Myth Versions Mess up Current One

I was trying some things out today and loaded some old versions of myth. Problem is, when I go back and reload the current myth 1.7.2, it erases all my data. Like how all the levels are showing in the campaign, they are all gone and it only shows the first levels of each. So you gotta hold down shift to view them all again, and then if you change a setting while in multiplayer mode, you have to toggle the shift again to reselect the level each time. Why does this do that? Is there any way to keep my preferences in my current myth saved when I want to experiment with older versions?

Oh and what is Tex. Cache in prefs screen? I have mine set to the maximum 512MB. Is that like how many projectiles can be on the screen before they start disappearing to reduce graphics lag?

I think it's the amount of memory reserved for caching your detail textures.

It should be described in the 1.7.2 readme/features screen.
I know there's been some discussion on the forums about good/recommended settings.

Copy your "preferences" folder and after you are done experimenting with older versions just copy over your backup prefs. So you don't have to use shift this time around, just go to the maps in single player and press Ctrl + (to auto win) until you are done with all maps.

As for the texture cache, it helps with plugins that have a lot of graphics. Things like plugins with units, projectiles, scenery, detail textures, etc that are higher resolution than default stuff. As long as your graphics card has the vram to handle a bigger cache, you are fine to use it. The default is 20 MB and the highest setting is 512 MB.

As the readme says:

A new preference called “texture cache” allows you to manually specify the amount of VRAM OpenGL should use to cache textures and sprites. A good rule of thumb is to set this number to be approximately 75% of your graphics card’s total memory.

Note that you can also just copy your whole myth directory to a new folder as well and use that for experimentation. Then there's no way that it can impact your "production" copy of Myth 2.

The CTRL + doesn't work for me. I remember it used to a long time ago, but I think its my laptop. The + sign shares a button with the = sign, and + needs shift in order to register. Any other way to quickly get the levels unlocked again?

Here I made this game pref file. Just place it in your preferences and you will see all the default maps.

It only works with the other + key, on the keypad, which many laptops don't have.

Nice, that's handy for me too :)
