Hi,

I've gotten Myth2 ( Soul blighter ) for linux ..

Im currently running patch 1.3e as per loki's last updates and I've still got a nagging problem with Dri/Drm on my laptop that has an Intel 845G chipset ..

Basically the GL output is corrupted so an update would be highly welcomed.

I can't tell you much since I'm not on the inside, but I don't think it's going to be out within 3 months.

He like to post for postings sake.. Making uninformed guesses is also good for Linux players Morale, but not Ruricks.

Well speed of releases isnt an issue see under linux we have a software option that uses SDL as the renderer ( works ok ) but a GL accelerated game is obviously more pleasing.

I also have

Quake3 Arena ( Win cd + ID_Linux installer )
Heretic 2
Heavy Gear 2
NeverWinterNights ( Platinum )

and they all work flawlessly since the release now of Xfree 4.5.0 so any fixes to Myth2 should be amazing.

Ive found that a handcrafted Linux install makes a very powerfull gaming platform ( Win32 gamers also agree )

Just a guess but I think there's a 99% chance that it's out tomorrow, based on some clear evidence that I can't tell you about ;)

Honestly, I hope the Linux version is a) actually being worked on and b) out some day... I actually quit playing Myth II when SDL 1.1 was dropped from Debian (meaning only static myth2 binary worked), and that was a long time ago.

I certainly hope there'll be some actual progress this year on the Linux version. If not, I think I have a nomination for the Vaporware Awards that'll make Wired strip Bioware of that NWN Linux client award they won :)

Well, at least we have a good excuse, bioware is a big company with resources at their disposal, and monetary gain to motivate them. We're just a bunch of hobbyists with very little in the way of resources, and only community growth to motivate us.

That said, I agree, this linux update has been a long time coming.

The main problem has been finding a linux SDL developer who'll actually commit time & effort to the port. We've gone with several who've promised to get it done but delivered nothing. We're really hoping that this time we'll be in luck ... but I'm not holding my breath.

Ive always built SDL from source heretic2 and friends always ran a little better that way ... its only been recent that the newer CVS versions of smpeg actually compiled.

That said it should be interesting to see where this goes.
