Hey everybody.
I've been away from Myth for a very very long time, I believe at least 5 or 6 years. Myth 1 and 2 were my all time favorite games and I just recently bought the game (a new sealed package) again on ebay, so hopefully when it gets here I get a chance to play myth again.
I've been away for so long that I really have no idea what happened during the past years.. What's the current situation with patches? What are the most popular mods? How do you play online? I heard bungie.net has been shut down many years ago so there's gotta be another way to enter an online lobby now.
Thanks a lot, and I hope to play with you all fellow mythers sooner or later
PS
Also, I wanted to introduce a friend of mine to myth, but I'm not sure if he's going to need a CD key or not. Is he going to be able to use my CD-key at the same time (is one needed, at all?) or is he going to have to buy his own copy?

the most popular server for myth is currently playmyth.
playmyth.net
you can get the latest patch (1.5.1) there which has the playmyth server included within it. you'll also have to register for an account there.
most important thing about the patch is probably shift-double click for melee fights. gesture clicking is no longer necessary.
you've come back to myth during an active time. a lot of people are playing currently due to the myth world cup being played these summer months.
mwc06.com
there you can get the tourney maps that a lot of people are playing for practice.

didn't see your post script when i first posted, so...
no CD key is required. he just has to be able to run myth. after my myth2 CD broke, i just downloaded the game online (some brazilian website had it uploaded... dont remember the address).
also, you'll need a non-free email address to obtain an account for playmyth.net.

2004 i believe.
i played on mnet (tfl) pretty much 24/7 end of 2003 and into 2004. there weren't many players on then. rarely more than 30 ever. sometimes 0 during the day. i believe 2004 had TFL's last tourney. a day tournament hosted by like... grahf? PoRN lost to *F* in the finals .
i'm assuming that now that the year is 2006, TFL is even deader than it was in the first half of 2004 (i stopped playing around that time).
hardly anyone ever plays TFL on pmnet and whenever i log onto mnet i only see marathoners.
tfl i deader than the tfl demo was before it was shut down.

Psycho (the one on TFL demo?), you don't even need to have the CD in the CD drive anymore with the latest patch.

Orlando, I'd have to go with 2004 myself. Granted, the people you might have played with may have moved on by then, but it was still quite easy to get good games of TFL going when I started up in 2003.

Nice, thanks a lot for the quick answers.
I'll do as you guys said. I was actually able to log on playmyth.net with the demo, so I shouldn't have problems with the real game.
What mods do I need? I know that there's always a bunch "hit of the season" mods that everybody's playing, and if you don't have them 90% of the games are going to be red.. What should I download so I can play join most of the current games?
Thanks again.

You are gonna love the new mods. In many ways they are actually better than what originally came with the game. Get a hold of Blue and the Grey (from downloads here) to see what I mean. And get Mazzarin's Demise V if you want to feel like your its 1997 and your in Bragada again. Except play it by yourself the first time on Legendary. You should be fine.

I still remember that insane mod for TFL where you played a bunch of dorfs and there was a huge pool in the middle of the map, lol.

This may have a Myth 2 port of that map, though I haven't checked to be sure. If it uses unmodified myth 2 dwarves then playing with TFL Gameplay enabled will reproduce all the beautiful TFL explosion chain-reaction physics
