Playing Myth multiplayer has been a great experience. This awsome thing combined with interesting plugins allow for a whole new and sometimes better experience than the original game.

But people dont all have the same plugins, and new players find the multitude of avalible plugins on tons of sites intimidating.

Is it possible for magma to develop a super plugin combining all of the decent Myth Plugins? it would be like a gig or something - a HUGE file, but it would make the Myth experience much more enjoyable.

What do you think?

Ah but then who would pick which plugins went in?

Exactly. Mb you should start a poll or a topic on that.

Trouble with a poll is you're restricted to people who read forums, which is by no means a good cross-section of all the players. And generally all you get is a lot of conflicting opinions.

There's no reason though why we couldn't talk among ourselves & come up with what we believe to be a good "map standard", and post that for public suggestions. Then we could combine them all into a zip and make it available for download.

Even so, for it to work a lot of players would need to see it and download it, which means exceptional PR.

There is a similar topic at Playmyth.net with some feedback.
You could include their discussions in your poll.

That topic is more along the lines of including a few good plugins (the PRASP maps in particular) in the 1.5.1 update, probably as patch files not plugins, in order to get more variety online.

We discussed this at length with the private test team, however there wasn't unity on the issue hence it was decided not to go down that route. Experience has shown that when you have some people opposed to a change like that, even in a minority, its best to avoid the flame wars that can arise if the change is pushed through anyway.

What New Guinea is suggesting is a single download containing all the good multiplayer plugins, no matter how large.

Iron, I definitely agree that many Mythers rarely, if ever, read forums. I recall that mnet had a blue bar message and a survey about meleeing issues - I think. If someone wanted to make an end-all plugin, perhaps Play Myth could help chosing by making a blue bar message and a survey, and/or an account to be pm'ed or a survey so everyone could voice their opinions as to what meshes and maps should be included.

yeah ... 'cept I still think that you'd only end up with a lot of differing opinions, plus many ww2ers and rank-playing reggers (by no means all of course) aren't interested in other plugins.

Including the PRASP maps in a Patch 1.5.1, so everyone had them guaranteed - that would have been nice but ... ah well.

One super plugin, unless restricted to maps without custum units, could be a tag id conflict nightmare to create.

Wouldn't it overflow myths memory allowance or something like that???

it'd be easier and more sense to do it as one big zip containing the original plugins.

although lots of good plugins would be missed, using the maps that pmnet ranks as "pure" would be an excellent package. it could be divided into 2 downloads for ffa and team maps - each of which would be between 100-200mb

i am sure that the top 10 ww2 maps could be determined without too much uproar and made into a 50-100mb plug. i really have no idea, mb you can put ALL the ww2 plugs together in less than 200mb.

i agree with iron that just zip-ing the separate plugs together is the way to go. no work involved consolidating and allows original readme's etc to persist.

at the least, it would be nice for someone to put together a page that has only those links on it... guess i could do that. at some point.

a last thought on picking the best plugs is asking bloo for data on which have been played the most.

All the PRASP maps in one pack would be nice. No arguments over which was best if they all went in.

unit tagsets would have to be in seperate plugs as well.

Also, people with the maps seperately couldn't play with the giant plug :\

And if 56kers had to dl a giant plug to play maps that they already have would be really cruel

Maybe if any Zooper Plugz get made, they could be divided into several different categories. Like there could be a medieval uberplug, a recent history uberplug, and a modern/future plug.
This is how I'd have it:

Medieval
-TSG
-Chimera
-Hexotagset
-Sisters of the Blade
-Woods Out Back
-Legend of GorAsh
-Bushido, etc...

Recent History
-Civil War
-Pirates
-Wild West
-WWII
-Vietnam, etc...

Modern/Future
-WWII
-Vietnam
-Mainstee Paintball
-Special Forces
-ADT
-Jinn
-Starship Troopers, etc...

You probably noticed that I mentioned WWII and Vietnam CP twice, this is because I feel that they could overlap into both categories. Anyway, that's how I'd handle it so that people could get the whole package of what they want without wasting time downloading what they don't. Someone who plays a lot of ADT doesn't want Cowboys on the opposing team.
