Senex Silvae crashes

This came up in another one of my strings in map making, but I thought it pertinent to bring up here. Senex Silvae crashes after about four minutes on myth 1.5.1 build on windows for me. How can I fix this? Are there any patches for the level? Mine says its only v1...

Thanks for the report. The bug will be fixed in 1.5.2!

I think it says somewhere that Senex Silvae is for macs only.
A real enemy is someone who hates you enough to disprove what you believe, even though they may share the same beliefs.

That is probably outdated info. The pre OS X mac versions didn't have memory protection so plugs could do things that caused memory corruption and still run. Since windows had memory protection certain plugins would crash. Now that OS X & Windows have memory protection the plugin will fail on all systems other then OS 9.

This is/was a common problem with plugins that where not well tested written back in the day of OS 9.

The way we work around it is by running the plugin and causing it to crash Myth in a debugger and then we add a check to keep Myth from corrupting memory and crashing.

I believe GHOST (?) wrote an unofficial "patch" for Senex Silvae along with a few others that fixed a problem that caused them to crash on PC's. He posted them during the final months of The Mill.

I'm currently on the road and don't have access to my full myth library including the patched plugin, but I recall he made more than one of these for plugins that were originally released as "Mac Only".

Dang - thought we might have discussed this on another thread a year or so ago too...

He basically removed some problematic parameters from their use of MELE that caused crashing, and fixed some platoons that had waypoints near impassable terrain.

Afaik though, the MELE bugs have since been fixed in Myth itself, so most of those plugins should work with their original versions.

I am trying to play SENEX SILVAE but it crashes after 3-4 minutes of playing. I downloaded it from Project Magma - apparently it´s not the patched version described below - does anyone access to those? I´d love to play it.

Are you using Myth II 1.6? As far as I know, the two bugs that crashed PCs are fixed in 1.6. Are you still experiencing errors?

Myth II 1.6 doesnt see Senex Silvae levels

Myth II doesn´t "see" Senex Silvae. It can see it as a plugin but then when you try to select the level from the main "New Game" window, Senex Silvae´s levels don´t appear. So it´s a catch 22 : I need Myth II 1.6 to fix its crashes, but Myth II 1.6 doesn´t see its levels. Any ideas?

Click "New Game", click "Plugins", activate "Senex Silvae", hold shift and click OK (let it go a second after you've hit OK). Senex Silvae should show up in your list of levels.

Btw, there's something wrong with the way your browser does quotes, it shows up all garbled in the forum...
