qwarqwa, those are some very good advice and pointers. Thanks! Let's just hope that they will look favourable on a project like this!

I myself am not a lawyer, either :) But you about summed up what we're going by. We7ve been looking at other examples of the same, like Exult (the Ultima VII remake project, which uses the original data). WARTBED is "only" a framework, and you need original game data. A module will have tw...

Yeah, that is a very legitimate concern. That is why WARTBED has nothing at all to do with any trademarked games or franchises. The modules are separate from WARTBED and might perhaps be CaD:ed, but the legality of that would be questionable since the modules basically only convert original data own...

I would be grateful for any help, and using your already established contacts would certainly be helpful! As for CaD letters, WARTBED is structured so that the game engine itself uses no proprietary code or data whatsoever, and all game support is done through modules, modules separate from the syst...

Hmm, I really had no idea... Well, perhaps we could be of more use to each other than I had originally envisioned then. The current focus of this project is regimental warfare (WARTBED is short for "War And Regimental Tactics Battle Engine (Deluxe)"), but since there is not restriction on ...

Sorry for double-posting, but is there a particular reason for the questions about an open-source clone of Myth? I thought the current Myth update situation (is it what is called "Project Magma"?) fulfilled the needs for the community. If there is demand for an FOSS Myth version then I gue...

what you're making could be modified into a Myth clone without a huge amount of work? For certain values of "without a huge amount of work", yes, I guess. :) By the way, I ought to make you aware of Glest http://glest.org/en/index.php I checked it out earlier, thinking that there might be...

Oh, a bunch of posts to reply to! I am at UCT+1 (Stockholm, Sweden) so I am a bit out of synch with your posts. First, though not exactly the asked question, handling sprite- and 3D units in the same engine is relatively trivial. Sprite-based and 3D model units are subclasses of a generic unit class...

Yes, by disassociating the presentation from the game as client and server the architecture is intended to support true multiplayer (as in more than 1v1) and spectators. Now, I want to stress that this is work in progress, and as you all know, with only a few programmers development times will be lo...

Multi-platform. It is written in Standard C++. The graphics is done in OGRE 3D, which is compatible out-of-the-box with Win32/64, OSX and Linux, and with forthcoming ports also with some consoles. I started out using Irrlicht, but it was too limited in low-level facilities and ported the graphics la...

Most regimental RTT games (such as Waterloo: Napoleon's Last Battle, Gettysburg!, Shadow of the Horned Rat, Dark Omen, Myth and Total War) share similar mechanics. There are units divided into regiments that can take formations. Units have strengths and weaknesses that can be represented numerically...

Yeah, it was (and is)! Of course, I am biased, but I consider it the finest RTT game ever made! It is much better still on PC since you have better control of your units. If you want to play it again, I really recommend you to visit some of our boards, our community isn't very large yet, perhaps onl...

Ah, ok, that's different then, Well, the only things I really need are actually specifications for data and resource files, not the entire code base, though it would have been interesting to peruse them. As for out project, we're far beyond planning and have running applications for level editors et...

Well, I'm not knowledgeable about Myth IP and I won't pretend to be (though I wish for a new Myth game, and I want it to be made by Bungie). The only thing I do know is that Bungie released the Myth II source to the community, and here I am, hoping to learn from it.

I don't think so. Bungie still lists I & II on their site, and Wiki puts it as that they "lost the franchise rights to Take 2 Interactive". This implies that the titles prior to III are still theirs.
