Re: need some advice

Whatever you study, learn to write code. I work with about 20 games startups and the guys who call the shots are the programmers.

In big companies, it's the suits who call the shorts.

Re: TouchMyth - (only a wee bit of a necro)

Here's a wee mov I cooked up.

As I said, it's not Myth. But it's a first to build on.

Re: TouchMyth - (only a wee bit of a necro)

Aaaand eight months later, with only one programmer on team, we released the first taster of our first real-time tactics game on iPad: Eagle Lake https://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/eagle-lake/id550257413?mt=8 It's free so have a go. Now - it's not Myth. It's not even close. But then it was the work of ...

Re: TouchMyth - (only a wee bit of a necro)

Wee update. Two programmers on board. One is an experienced web dev/designer and the other is a low level C++ programmer. We're taking on a few contract jobs to support the raising of funds trip to the west coast. Weeks away from commissioning some of the first game art. So - it's not Myth. But it'l...

Re: TouchMyth - (only a wee bit of a necro)

Sorry, been a heck of a time these past two weeks at work doing overtime. Kinda burnt out and fell behind on contacting people. You are a bad person. (my mailbox is always open - when you get the time) Does surprise me I've had a few views but no comments. I have an ex Rockstar Vienna developer wor...

TouchMyth - (only a wee bit of a necro)

Hi folks, Since my last posts her I've been lurking and reading. I'm not sure there is enough interest in a myth-a-like on iPad to justify it. I'm not a developer or a designer so working on something like this was always going to involve raising capital and so far I'm at a bit of a crossroads. I ca...

Re: Project Magma on iPad

That's a good contact right there. The aim, at the moment, is to create an engine that will allow easy porting of things like that - for liberté or profit depending on the designer.

Frustrates me that there's so much great work here...and people can't make a living off it.

Re: Project Magma on iPad

I should probably create a different thread. Update so far. Story for the 'included" game is being nailed down. My collaborators are helping me with the term sheet for the investors and also producing a lo-fi version of a level to help them visualise. Pulling together some "look and feel&q...

Re: Project Magma on iPad

When I say "No Fear and Loathing", I just mean that the skills used with those tools may not be transferable because different tools will be used. The aim? Create something which has a bit more future. License the engine to make sure other people can create stuff. Ship each game with a sto...

Re: Project Magma on iPad

Update: I've not gone away. I've been putting together a board of advisors - mostly on the contacts and business side including a SV-based private investor, a local venture capitalist, a local monetization expert and Seattle-based techie (who I went to school with). In addition to some of the nice p...

Hi @ozone,
Drop me a PM with your contact details. Going to get some sort of project page together in the next week or so.

Re: Project Magma on iPad

Presumably formats and methods would change, but I reckon I've got the skills to create some maps when and if it ever gets to that point. Well, that's the thing. I have no useful skills other than business/money-acquisition and a hatred of bad UX. I do work best in teams so finding people with an i...

Re: Project Magma on iPad

I've been an infrequent visitor because I just keep tabs on changes here. That said, I love Myth and am obviously indebted to the guys here who keep it going. How else would I while away my precious free time? I've tried to talk to Take2 and found it incredibly hard to get them to even take my calls...

Re: Project Magma on iPad

As the re-invigorator of this thread, I'd like to take the opportunity to make sure the devs who have fought for, maintained, coded, re-coded, built maps, plug-ins, fixed bugs and all the other things they do - are soundly congratulated . If I could give you money for Myth, I would. In fact, there's...

Re: Project Magma on iPad

Hi Melekor, I don't think there is any reasonable way to produce something that can re-use all of the tags and plugins. I think it would be insane to even try that. But something new that had the feel of the units, the same sort of user experience for the game itself, albeit with a multi-touch user ...
