i cant, after the black screen it just quits to the desktop, tried reintalling and reupdating, and no luck

i have win xp sp2 with a geforce 5200 and 512 RAM, i have never been able to play in this machine since i bought the total codex. the screen flickers, the resolution changes and i get a black screen until i force quit the app. what is weird is that i can start fear and loathing with no problems at ...
