Hey,

I noticed some time ago that you can choose an animation to be displayed as a unit's "headshot". Nothing special, but I also recognized that a seemingly random frame out of the animation is shown as a portrait for each unit if you do so. This means that you could create an animation with several different portraits of one unit type and select them as a "headshot"-tag. When the unit is created, one random portrait is picked and shown.
This is a possible way to bring a bit variety into the portrait gallery (I mean, not every warrior has the same face: :surprised: :( :D :) :nocomment: ) and wasnt realized yet I think. I also hope its true what I am telling you because I am not in possession of a mac and so can't test it out with amber.

If somebody is interested in this, he might try it out and post here if it works or not. And if it really works, I would like to see this in a future plugin!

rgds,
Phex.

Ooo. That's nifty. I'd never heard of that, but now that it's mentioned.. logically... yes, it would work. For an animating version you would just have several frames of the same view. For multiple shots, multiple views with one frame. Should work. I'll try it out when I get the chance.. someone will likely beat me to it though. Great idea though... might be incorporatable into TFV :o

If I remember right this does work fine for frames, but views will be ignored, so I don't think that animation is possible unfortunately :(

But the random frames do allow for some nice variation.

I never had the thought of unique headshots for each unit. But I will tell you that I did try to get an animated headshot for a Berserk once (I still have it on my puter). It was a little hand-drawn berserk that twirled his sword coolly.
Unfortunately, rather than play the animation when I click the portrait, it used to just play one frame, then go back to normal (as well as centering the camera on my army).
Okay I got the models but now I'm too dumb to do anything with 'em

wait so you guys are saying a still frame WOULD work? as in i would make, lets say a warriors face (headshot), take it into photoshop and then rotate it vertically, put it back in fear with amber, classify as a headshot, and half my warriors would have regular myth 2 face and half would have my hanging by legs warrior face and are still the same unit?
the longer you hold it, the warmer it gets.
