It's very unstable. Best to let experts get in and make it safe first.

Vinylrake's host was hit by a hacker so the site is down for a bit.

As far as Myth being dead, I've got some great new stuff coming out very soonâ„¢, including:

* Rocket Dorf Fest!! v5.1 (sweetness incarnate)
* Three new map mods, including one with an all-new Game!! :D
* Couple of extremely fun unit plugins we've been playing for several months

And some other surprises waiting in the wings...

I think Myth is in one of those "lulls" that just needs an injection of a little something to make it exciting again. That and: (a) The Tain - in even the roughest form - to get some interaction amongst Mythers; (b) whatever tools the Mac folks need to keep creating wonderful goodness for Myth.

Always cracks me up when people say "this game is too old", blah, blah, blah. Dang, why the heck do people still watch baseball, football, soccer, golf, etc.? They're a bit older than 7 years methinks...

P.S. My sincerest condolences to Oz. :(

Whatta shame.
But Myth is only as dead as the people who play it!

The Myth Graveyard and the Myth Atlas are down due to a friggin Brazilian hacker wannabe who stole so much bandwidth via my account that my webhost shut down my account twice in less than a week.

Since I couldn't find the source of the hack I have to set things up from a brand new account but since my hosting service was nice enough to let me grab the latest versions of all my files afer they shut everything down it's "just" a matter of examining dozens of scripts for security holes and rechecking permissions on everything then everything should be back up.

I am kind of busy with real-life stuff so it will probably be a few weeks before everything is back online, but I've already converted the map atlas to mySQL so it will have better searching and stuff.

btw, industry you said "Myth Graveyard and his Map Atlas both of which must have taken HOURS to compile are gone." HOURS? You have to be kidding me - I've spent hours looking for a single lost file/web page I saw a reference to and just had to try to locate. "Hours"...mutter...mutter...
Lots of Myth stuff at http://mythgraveyard.org.

Awlright! Glad to see I was wrong. I've often thought it might be worth it to write a Guarddog sort of security package. One that instead of just filtering out unwanted traffic and virus would fight back. Make BIOS calls to reset the hackers screen resolution, spin up the hard drive and then crash the heads, reflash his BIOS with all 1's, that sort of thing. I'm guessing sport hacking script kiddies would loose interest if there was a common perception that instead of possibly getting arrested, hacking could turn their computer into a brick.

I'd hate to make a programming error in that app and have it accidently go off on me instead of a hacker.

Yeah, don't get me wrong that sounds like an excellent idea - every computer should have some defense like that. But wouldn't it suck if it backfired? :\

With some skilled tag work and scripting, it could probably be done. But who would want to? :P
