Hey guys,

I just bought the Myth 2 CD off ebay. It will install on my old laptop, but when I try to install on my brand new desktop it won't install. The window opens, I press the install Myth 2 Soulblighter button and then nothing happens. No install shield... nothing. Do u think it is because my computer is too fast. Please help I love this game.

Thanks

Can you browse the contents of the CD? Try using the installer from there.

surely your computer shouldn't have a problem installing it because it is too fast. i would think that would help it rather than hinder it.

My suggestion is that you bypass the installation process and just drag this folder to your desktop (or Games folder).

Myth II f (might be differently named under pcs),

then drag tags, cutscenes, Fear, Loathing, and Tool Docs into the Myth II f folder on your desktop (yes to replace folder questions).

Your computer may require things from the setup folder but I don't know how you'd install them manually, perhaps one of the Magma Programmers would know.

Best bet is to post your computer details here for the best possible help.

what horus said,... all you need is create a myth folder

in this folder you copy:
the tags folder you can find on your myth CD
smackw32.dll file (should be on CD too)

then you download the installer for 1.5.1 (from this site) and let it run on that folder... (don't know this and i'm too lazy to check, but can't you install full game using that installer?)

if you want the tools, those for myth 1.5 are somewhere around here too

Ingore the message about the NT Service Pack, it will install just fine. Also don't forget to download and install the 1.5.1 update found here. This will make Myth fully XP compatabile and allow you to play with others online.

Just installed earlier and had that problem, so just ignored the message and applied the patch. Works.

unfortunately i can't ignore the message. it completes 100% of the copying essential files then comes up with the error requiring the NT service pack and quits installation :( which means i cant apply a patch since the directory i create never creates. i've tried all the tricks i can think of and it's a legit cd. maybe i shall never play Myth2 again...

It isn't an error it is just a message saying your need a service pack if you are running under NT. The installer was made when the only modern windows OS was NT, and they didn't think about future versions of NT. Anyways has you have noted the files have already copied, now you just need to find them on your hard drive. In fact the updater should find them automatically. The default location for Myth II is "C:\Program Files\Myth II".

In summary just igore the message and continue on. Also dont' try any tricks, the installer just works it just gives a bogus message.

it seems i'm still caught in the same problem spot. the essential files get to a point but dont actually copy to the hard drive and installation cancells right at the end - leaving not even a directory, let alone files to be able to add a patch to. the only thing i change each time i try is the default directory, to: C:\Games\Myth2
even when i apply a patch to that location i am missing the game and .dll files etc. where am i going wrong?

Sounds like your CD is scratched or something and the installer is failing to read one of the files and is aborting it all.

run the installer in compatibility mode for windows 98

this is a normal problem in win2k/xp, the installer thinks you're using win nt 4.0 and that you need a service pack which doesn't exist, you either need to cancel out upon recieving that error by bringing up the task manager and killing the process, or you avoid the problem altogether by using compatibility mode and making it think it's being installed on a win98 machine.

right click on installer -> properties -> compatibility mode -> windows 98
