If you're going to import a sound to replace it with (and you're on a Mac) it must be a:
AIFF, 22050 khz, mono (actually, you can use stereo I think but only for things like menu music) 16bit.
I don't know what it would be on a PC, it's WAV and similar quality.
In Fear you go into 'sounds' then find something called 'main music 1' - there's 4 of them, numbered accordingly. Double click on that thing and poke around in there.
