Data Recovery - is it all bunk?

I've got this DVD-R I'm having trouble reading.
I tried to make an image out of it to see if that'd help, no dice.

Is there *any* way I can get into this thing?

Mm. The short answer is that no, data recovery is not bunk in the least.

The longer answer involves telling you that the parts of data recovery that are non-bunk generally charge $250/hour and up.

I don't quite understand what it means by input/output error, I've no idea why some files work and others don't... could it have anything to do with the brand of DVD-R's I've used?

Writable discs have a maximum 5 year life, more often 2 years. Do not rely on them, they are worse than floppy disks for corruptability.

I recommend you keep on trying your disc in different drives, as you may eventually find one that's able to read it despite its deterioration.

What the hell? That's insane, why even make the bloody things?

This disc shouldn't be deteriorated, I wrote it last month.
