Bring GPU filters to Myth II ?!! PLEASE READ - idea: 2D filters over Myth II!

After using VLC ( an amazing video player). An idea struck me. This sounds far fetched, but trust me, it could be very very cool for myth and every other game out there!

VLC allowes users to apply 2D video filters during playback, including while watching DVDs. Bluring, Distortion, transformations, cropping, color inversion...ect...ect...a few simple filters. The blurring that is performed with this in realtime is fantastic. Customizable settings allow you to get some nice results.

Now if there was a way to include this type of filtering effect ontop of Myth II (or any other game for that matter, I'm thinking older games mainly), it could really help make the older game a bit more visually diverse to what we are used to looking at. Creating a greater interst.

Along with that, creating a Layer blending option would be amazing for the game as well. Similiar to the layer blending modes in Photoshop, if we could apply a noise, grain, or distorted duplicate of the original frame, in realtime, with a layer blending function, multiply, screen, hard light...ect...ect it could create some fun results. Any thoughts.

I'd think it would be fairly limited unless you could use the filter only on individual sprites. Sure blurring a little and adjusting a fe settings might make it look better, but imagine being able to make an individual spell attack go through every color of the spectrum and be able to fade in and out also. Would reduce the need of big collections or lpgrs.

for OS X, isn't it possible to do such a thing. Apply a 2D filter to the entire display on the top application? So it wouldn't be looking at individual sprites, but as a simple 2D image.
