Hi everyone!
I used to play on TFL back when it was first released way back in 1997. I then left it collecting dust and after almost 10 years have picked it up again just the other day!
Its brilliant! I forgot just how good it is, and for a game released in '97 it was way ahead of its time!
Anywho, my question to you people is (having been away from the scene for 9 years!) what is going on!?!
I know there are three versions of Myth, from what i can gather people are saying that Myth II is the best and Myth III is a load of gash! Is this true before i go getting hold of them!?
Also it would be handy to know where the best place to join internet games!?
Thanks, Reeksy.
Whats going on!?!
Welcome back.
Which versions of myth to get... Well, it's all a matter of personal taste.
Personally I preferred TFL over m2, but loved both. I never liked M3, it was in horrible shape at the time of release. It's seen massive improvement thanks to mythdev/flyingflip, but even so, I think it pales in comparison to the others. Some people will tell you that m3 got an unfair bum rap, and that you should check it out for yourself. My suggestion is that you look at the numbers, nobody really plays either myth 3 or myth tfl compared to myth II.
As for TFL vs. M2, I've since come to favour myth2 because it has seen more improvement between the 2, has more plugins, and now features a virtual TFL gameplay option so I can have the best of both worlds.
What's going on? in terms of myth TFL and myth3 not a hell of a lot as far as I know. Myth II is a whole different story, there's a lot of work going into new tools, new patches, new plugins, tournaments, websites, etc. Just read some of the forum posts here to get an idea of how active the community is.
As you must be aware bungie.net is long gone. The best place to get a game is at playmyth.net (install the latest patch, and you will have the option of choosing your metaserver). Mariusnet.com is also a viable alternative, but doesn't have the same kind of player base that playmyth.net has. They've also suffered a catastrophic hard drive failure recently that wiped out their website.

Hi Doobie
Thanks for the reply! Ok so i now have all three versions of Myth, I managed to pick them up for £5 off of EBay! Bargain!
I’ve played all three now and i can see the huge difference between Myth III and the original two. Its nowhere near as good!
So how come Myth III was developed by Mumbo Jumbo? And because of Myth III being a bit of a flop and Bunjie no longer existing does this mean that there will be no more Myth releases?
Thanks, Reeksy.

Bungie still exists, they're just owned by Microsoft. Take 2 owns Myth.
www.bungie.net is still active, for Halo purposes mostly.

Well among other events... the Mill the place where all known Myth files would go to closed down time ago... well closed down for Myth. The place that would host the Mill is still up for other games. But apparently The Tain will one day be up to replace our current disorganized arrangment of Myth files. It's very unlikely there will ever be another Myth game. Unless Take Two thinks they could make a profit from one... or somehow someone buys the Myth rights from them and does something. One good thing that might have come out from Myth 3 is hopefully a few new people discover Myth and play it. I think of Myth3 as bait for new people into Myth.
So all in all then the future looks pretty bleak then!
There is obviously only so much that can be done with Myth II and as the years creep on by the scene will surely only lose members until only a few hardcore players are still around?!
Myth is a game that could have been sooo much more, if someone took the original game engine from Myth II and brought it into the modern day you would have an instant classic - I just think that Myth II has been unfairly forgotten about by big name developers!
Anyway, enough of a rant! I’m off to play Myth while I can be confident I’m not the only one....

Myth isn't going to be dead for a long time, especially where the co-opers are concerned, seeing as allot of mapmakers are still churning out new innovative plugs for people to play.
@ Doob - You really should add a link to the Myth stuff on Amazon.com for those people who distrust ebay, (Amazon.com Myth = almost as cheap with an Amazon guaranteed delivery and condition) onto that www.getmyth.com page.

Well Horus my Myth 2 cd finally got here (yesturday)... so I don't mistrust eBay. But it may seem the US Postal Service must have misplaced it for some time. Almost a month of waiting! And when I gave up on that... I asked my friend where I left my Myth cds to just send it... I called him to tell him not to anymore... but it was too late... he sent them before I could get a hold of him.Horus â„¢ wrote:Myth isn't going to be dead for a long time, especially where the co-opers are concerned, seeing as allot of mapmakers are still churning out new innovative plugs for people to play.
