After importing my colormap, I get lots of little black dots on some parts of the map. Some are in areas that have black or dark grey, but it also happens in some grassy areas. What is causing this and how do I fix it?

How many colours did you index your colour map to? This usually happens if you indexed to 256 colours instead of 240, as Loathing/Myth needs room add in a few of its own.
So in Photoshop or whatever, just reduce the number of colours and replace it.

It is indexed to 240 colors, but I was able to reduce the amount of dots by changing the color. I will see if I can get rid of the rest that way.

Edit: Ok, i was able to switch from black dots to less noticeable/ugly brown dots.

are you using a pc or a mac?
sometimes I got those on macs, never on a pc
try creating a new map from scratch and importing again a 240 colour map bmp 8 bits.

Oh that's a point actually, are you importing a .bmp or a .pict? Loathing prefers .pict files.

if you're doing it in photoshop, when you index, force the first two pixels to be black and white.

photoshop, when it saves an image as an indexed pict on a mac, seems to force the first colour index to white and the last to black (or vice versa), as i found out a long time ago. this makes the 240 colours that you so nicely indexed be jumped forward one space to make room for the new first index, and when you import into loathing this shows up as the nasty dots you saw.

forcing the first two pixels to be black and white when you index - or else saving as a bitmap and using something like graphicconverter to change format to pict - will save your colour map from dotty ugliness.

i hope. :)

good luck!
