Making pregame and postgame

Post by gugusm »

I extracted Fallen Levels in Topaz and I opened one of these pregame collections with Tahoe. There are five pictures in all pregame collections and three in postgame. I can replace these pictures with mine, but there is one picture with three colors on it. I think this picture is changing colors in my pictures and making them ugly. Maybe there is some program to make my own pregames for SOLO map. I was trying with Jade, but I think it isn't good for solo maps.

You can likely use an existing pregame collection and edit it with Tahoe. Tahoe can import bitmaps. You also need to import the colour table. As it uses .act Adobe colour tables, you probably need something from Adobe like Adobe colour shop.

OK, few more questions. Can I do this with Adobe Photoshop?

As far as I know Adobe Photoshop should be able to export an image file's colour table into an .act file.

A pregame picture doesn't need to have been created in Photoshop, but Tahoe needs an Adobe colourtable file. Jade does this automatically, but only supports the 377x190 multiplayer pregames.

Another problem is this color table. What should it be? In TFL pregames there are three colors: something like violet, white and beige. If I put pictures in pregame with this color table, it's changing their colors into very similar to these three colors. So if I want to have in my pregame only black and white, I need to put color table with black and white? And if I want to have pictures with different colors, how to make color table?

I forget all the specifics of re-using/replacing colortables but basically the first three colors in your colortable are reserved for use by Myth. So you want to edit your colortable BEFORe you import it so you don't ahve any colors you use in your map in the first three slots.

On this topic, Clem once said...

"When you tell PS(Photoshop) to change to Indexed mode, Choose Adaptive in the window that pops up. There is another pull-down selection called Forced right below where adaptive is. Select "Forced" and Custom. A new window will pop up that allows you to choose to "reserve" palette spaces when you index. By doing it this way those (3 bungie reserved spaces) spaces are included into the palatte rather than replacing colors from your already converted image to the transparent colors."
Lots of Myth stuff at http://mythgraveyard.org.
Sometimes I put hard to find stuff in my my Udogs folder.

I don't understand everything, but I'll try again:

I want to put in my pregame Journeyman picture for example, yeah, this Journeyman from Myth 2 cd. I can even make it monochrome bitmap. Now, what should I do? I was trying with these Forced colors, but still it isn't so good. Maybe I'm doing something wrong. Can anyone tell me how to do this, step by step? I mean only these Photoshop aspects.

You have to use the color index from the collection in tahoe or replace it. The colors of the pic you want to use have to be close to the colors in the color table index of the collection you want to place it into. If not then you will need to adjust accordingly. You can also pull all the bmps from the collection and the pic u wanna replace into one image in photoshop and get a color table from that to make sure it would work, altough if colors are too diff then it might look like crap. If you use a different color table index, be sure to replace it back in tahoe.

Making a custom color index

Load Photoshop. Load image. Goto Image>Mode>Indexed color(unless its already indexed then goto RGB color then do this step). Select Local(Adaptive) in palette box. 240 in colors. Forced in custom. Select first pixel and set color as R 0 G 0 B 255, 2nd pixel as R255 G 0 B 255, and third pixel as R 0 G 255 B 0. Save it for future use. Click on Ok. Your pic is now indexed with a new color table. If using more than 1 pic go back to color table and save the new one and use that one for the rest of the collection or there will be problems. If you know how, making an batch action of these steps helps with large sequences of images.

You can create a large range of colors in the custom window by dragging mouse over pixels and selecting a color range, but this is wasteful for images with a variety of colors.

I hope this helps some, and if need more help ask, and if someone sees a problem with what I wrote then correct me.

Thanks, I was trying everything what you wrote here, but the effects weren't fantastic, but... I invented my own method. It's good, at least good enough for me, because I only want to put these Myth 2 pictures, which are on the cd. So, I set for them these three colors from color table as Forced colors and I put them into pregame collection. My pictures changed a little into something like beige, but it looks good, maybe even better than normal black-white pictures. After all, thanks once again.

No, but Industry was/is working on one. And at one point Melekor was working on Oak which had Amber stuff and other stuff.
