Several Problems

Post by darkgod »

AMD Athlon XP 2500+
GeForce 6800 128MB
OCZ 2x512 DDR 400Mhz
Gigabyte 7N400-Pro2
Windows XP Pro /w SP2

Myth II 1.5.1 Build 261

1. When Myth starts up and the main screen appears for some reason Myth seems to think it is in the background, and stuff from my desktop and start bar flash through the Myth screen. Using the keyboard to access preferences, multiplayer, etc works no problem but as soon as I click on anything the game alt-tabs. Once alt-tabbed, it then freezes and goes into 'Not Responding" status. I am not running any extra junk that would cause Myth, or anything else, to lose focus. I have to try about 10 times before I can get Myth to start with a working mouse.

2. When I use OpenGL sometimes (approximately 20% of the time) it blackscreens after loading into a game. Sounds can be heard and I'm stuck in the game but can't see what's going on, so I can't even leave and have to end MythII with task manager.

3. When I use Direct3D Myth crashes after EVERY game.

4. Whether it crashes, or I exit the game myself, my desktop gets completely destroyed every time I play. If I had any windows or other applications open, they are resized and moved to the upper left corner. My start bar is resized to 50% of my screen and desktop icons are randomly thrown to different locations. Ridiculous. What's the deal with that and why is there no windowed mode for PC? :(

Here's the log from the last time I played

Reinstalled, downloaded 1.5.1 again and patched. The first launch of Myth crashed my comp. Tried again after restart and still had the menu problem. Couldn't get past it after several tries. Downloaded 1.6.0 Build 282 beta (which you should make easier to find btw, as there is no visible link to it in Downloads, Projects, or News sections on the main site). I like windowed mode and the fact that it doesn't suck on startup already, so good news there. Not sure about crashing/blackscreen yet though.

Have you tried installing latest graphic card drivers from nvidia.com?

Just played for a while without any crashes/blackscreens. 1.6 seems to be a lot better, though I did notice that it seems to be impossible to do "no-turn stabs" with WWII soldiers and archers.

1.6 fixed the main menu problems as well as the desktop resizing. The crashes and blackscreens also occured before though when I had an ATI card. Always have updated drivers, so that wasn't the problem. Didn't play for too long, so I guess it remains yet to be seen whether or not I'll still have any more problems.
